The Finish Technician/Fabricator is responsible for the installation doors, hose beds, body panels, and other final parts to the fire apparatus as called for in the specifications. This position will drill, manipulate, and perform light fabrication to parts and necessary truck components to complete the custom installation, and perform all fabrication needed for the Finish Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for the installation of doors, hose beds, compartment internals, and body panels, and fabrication of boxes, brackets, and doors.
  2. Drills and tap holes and perform light fabrication to complete projects as needed.
  3. Measures and marks cutting and bending lines.
  4. Able to draw, read, and understand specs and blueprints to build fire apparatus.
  5. Installs customized options chosen by customers and called out in the specifications.
  6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the supervisor to meet the needs of the department.

Tools to be utilized:

Shear, hand brake, hand tools, power tools, grinders, cut off wheels, saw, shear, welders, and tape measure.



Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Education, and/or

Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 5 years of previous fabrication experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and technical ability required.

S

Skills:

Language:

  • Able to read and work from blueprints/spec books.
  • Able to draw a print by hand.
  • Able to read and understand a tape measure accurately.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions.

Math:

  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Computer:

  • Able to perform simple computer tasks to obtain information/changes related to the build process and/or troubleshoot.

A

Abilities:

  • Able to identify quality issues, recognize changes within the production process, and adjust as needed.
  • Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all.
  • Able to understand brake radius.
  • Able to understand metal thickness.
