Job Description

Riverside Park South is an award-winning waterfront park being constructed in six phases. Currently at 17 acres, it will eventually cover 32 acres, including a 750-foot pier, lawns, playgrounds, athletic fields, concessions and extensive horticulture. The Park hosts significant free public programs funded by the Riverside South Property Owners Association through the Riverside Park Conservancy. The Park is overseen as part of Manhattan District 14. The parks maintenance is privately funded and the vision has always been for Riverside Park South to receive exemplary care.

Major Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform assigned tasks to support the delivery of essential community services for Riverside Park South.
  • Work closely with the Park Administrator and, in consultation with the Parks Budget Office and Riverside Park Conservancy, develop and track the annual park maintenance budget.
  • Collaborate with NYC Parks and Riverside Park Conservancy staff to ensure the park is effectively inspected and maintained in accordance with the Parks Inspection Program and applicable contractual obligations. Communicate Park conditions, including public safety concerns, to appropriate Parks and Conservancy staff for resolution and aggressively pursue the immediate correction of safety hazards.
  • Oversee and coordinate the park’s horticultural care while preserving the park’s original design intent. Work with Parks and Conservancy staff to establish and maintain a long-term horticultural maintenance plan. Maintain horticultural records and monitor plant materials purchased and installed throughout the park.
  • Track maintenance and enforcement activities, programming, expenditures, work orders and inventory levels. Coordinate purchasing activities and oversee contractor services.
  • Coordinate with Parks Enforcement and Maintenance & Operations (M&O) to ensure that public programming in Riverside Park South receives the necessary operational and enforcement support.
  • Develop long-term strategies and plans for the effective maintenance and operation of Riverside Park South.
  • Provide the Park Administrator and Riverside South Property Owners Association with regularly scheduled status reports regarding park operations, conditions and funding.
  • Assist the Park Administrator with administrative responsibilities. Maintain accurate records, prepare comprehensive reports and respond to and track correspondence.
  • Represent the Agency at meetings and serve as a liaison with the Riverside South Property Owners Association, Riverside Park Conservancy, other City agencies, institutions and community constituents.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
