Job Description

Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.

POSITION SUMMARY

The LPN provides direct and indirect student care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meet the communication needs of students and families; provide care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintain regulatory agency requirements, nursing and CREC policies, procedures, and standards. Communicate with physicians and team members about changes in student's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Must be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment and able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the student and the student's clinical condition.
  • Perform student care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the student's age.
  • Assess and reassess pain management techniques utilized. Educates the student and family regarding pain management under the direction of the RN.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services to the level of licensure.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to the team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consult other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the student's needs.
  • Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the student.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assist with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
  • Ensure student confidentiality.
  • Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of students and families.
  • Interact professionally with student/family and involve student/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervise student care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  • Response to the student is appropriate in an emergency or physically distressful situation.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current LPN licensure in the state of Connecticut
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days from hire

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel as needed to attend meetings and assignments at schools/programs and other locations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide transportation to job sites, meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities as required. Valid CT driver's license and ability to secure and maintain a PSL.
