Position Title: Risk & Safety Specialist
Department: General Counsel
Reports to: General Counsel
Pay Class: Full-time Regular
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
The Risk & Safety Specialist works with internal stakeholders to ensure that operations run efficiently and effectively with appropriate safety and risk mitigation protocols and procedures implemented and followed throughout the organization, aligned with current local, state and federal laws and regulations. This position is responsible for monitoring safety practices, assisting in implementation of training throughout the organization, ensuring swift and appropriate responses to incidents and risk issues, fleet maintenance administration, and generally acting as a primary resource for risk and safety questions and responses throughout the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Risk & Incident Management - Serve as the primary responder for identifying, reporting, and mitigating physical hazards and unsafe conditions across all programs. This includes regular monitoring and restocking of first aid kits, as well as leading incident investigations and ensuring swift, appropriate responses to all risk-related issues.
Safety Program Development & Implementation:
Safety Training - Develop, update, and administer comprehensive organization-wide safety training programs. This includes collaborating with the People & Culture (P&C) team to maintain compliance records for annual training requirements on topics such as camp staff safety, driving, chemical use, heat exposure, bloodborne pathogens, emergency preparedness and evacuations, and other essential topics.
Internal Team Safety Liaison - Partner with teams and departments to create and maintain specific safety guidelines and procedures for team activities and programs. During camp seasons, act as the primary safety resource for camp staff by conducting regular site visits to each camp location, maintaining incident logs, leading safety responses, and disseminating safety updates on a regular cadence.
Safety Audits - Conduct regular safety audits throughout the organization to ensure adherence to established protocols and regulations, and to identify areas for improvement.
Emergency Management – Support the Director of Facilities and the Security Manager to manage the organization’s emergency management plans and procedures, including facility safety and fire mitigation, general emergency planning and implementing regular drills and preparedness activities.
Chemical Management - Create and maintain a comprehensive electronic system for tracking and librarying chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) used throughout the organization.
Fleet Management - Oversee the regular maintenance, servicing, and operational readiness of all Center vehicles, and assist operational teams with emergency maintenance scheduling and tracking. Take primary responsibility for driver training and maintaining records of Authorized Drivers.
Safety Council Leadership - In collaboration with General Counsel, build and serve on a diverse Safety Council team to assess risk issues and recommend improvements for mitigating organizational risks.

Maintain a calm demeanor in a stressful and rapidly changing environment
Qualifications
Required
Past experience in a risk and safety or related field
Experience developing and disseminating data and information through various forms of communication
Valid driver’s license and good driving record including no moving violations in the past three years
First Aid/AED/CPR certified or willingness to obtain this certification
Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends, especially during the summer
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Days and hours of work are largely Monday through Friday but some evening or weekend hours may be required
This position requires the ability to work at multiple locations in the Seattle area during the summer on a rotating basis
This role may require someone to remain at their workstation for long periods of time
This role requires inspection of sites and potential hazards of varying sizes throughout the facility (including in difficult to reach areas), frequent communication in different forms, and moving objects of various sizes and weights
The position requires work outside in all kinds of weather
The position requires the ability to operate vehicles, including 15 passenger vans

Compensation
Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.
