Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Risk Manager to lead risk management and compliance programs within a growing construction organization. This position will oversee construction insurance, subcontractor prequalification, contractual risk transfer, and OCIP/CCIP wrap-up programs while serving as a trusted risk resource to project teams and company leadership.

The ideal candidate will have extensive construction risk management or commercial insurance experience, with a strong understanding of insurance policies, contractual risk transfer, subcontractor compliance, claims, and wrap-up programs. This individual will lead risk initiatives from identification through resolution while strengthening the procedures and controls that support continued organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Lead day-to-day risk management and compliance programs
  • Identify potential project and organizational risks and drive issues through resolution
  • Develop and strengthen risk management procedures, controls, and reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve risk and compliance processes
  • Partner with Operations, Legal, Accounting, Safety, and project teams on risk-related matters
  • Serve as a primary internal resource for construction risk and insurance questions

Insurance & Contractual Risk

  • Review and interpret commercial insurance policies, endorsements, exclusions, and certificates
  • Evaluate contractual insurance requirements and risk transfer provisions
  • Identify and resolve insurance coverage issues and potential gaps
  • Support corporate and project-specific insurance programs
  • Assist with insurance renewals, underwriting activities, and required documentation
  • Coordinate with insurance brokers, carriers, owners, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders

Subcontractor Risk & Prequalification

  • Oversee subcontractor prequalification and ongoing compliance
  • Evaluate subcontractor insurance and risk requirements
  • Review deficiencies, exceptions, and higher-risk subcontractors
  • Support decisions regarding subcontractor readiness and risk exposure
  • Provide oversight and guidance for prequalification activities performed by Risk Management team members

OCIP/CCIP & Claims Management

  • Oversee OCIP/CCIP wrap-up programs from enrollment through reporting, audits, and closeout
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with applicable wrap-up requirements
  • Coordinate insurance claims and loss reporting through resolution
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to claims and insurance programs
  • Support project teams in addressing insurance and claims-related issues

Surety & Risk Programs

  • Support surety and bonding activities
  • Assist with Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) programs
  • Coordinate required documentation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor risk program performance and recommend improvements
  • Support leadership with risk analysis and decision-making

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and oversight to Risk Management support staff
  • Serve as the go-to resource for project teams and leadership on risk-related matters
  • Provide guidance on complex insurance, subcontractor, and contractual risk issues
  • Build strong relationships with brokers, carriers, owners, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Promote consistent risk management and compliance practices across projects

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction risk management and/or commercial insurance experience
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance and construction-related risk
  • Experience with contractual risk transfer
  • Experience with subcontractor prequalification and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of OCIP/CCIP wrap-up programs
  • Ability to review and interpret insurance policies, endorsements, exclusions, and certificates
  • Experience reviewing contractual insurance requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, leadership, brokers, carriers, and subcontractors

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • General contractor experience
  • Experience leading or overseeing Risk Management staff
  • Construction claims and loss reporting experience
  • Surety and bonding experience
  • Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) experience
  • Experience supporting insurance renewals and underwriting
  • Experience developing or improving organizational risk management procedures and controls

Candidate Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of construction risk management or commercial insurance experience
