HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Risk Generalist and Advisory

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and provide Subject Matter Expert support on Business Risk: risk identification, mitigation, governance, insights and control activities across assigned verticals.
  • Engage and coordinate with wide stakeholder groups (1st and 2nd Line of Defense, DBS, CMB, GB and other functions) as required.
  • Support Business Risk senior management in managing Conduct Risk and ensuring governance committees meet the risk governance framework.
  • Oversee governance of the Sales Outcomes Testing process across global sites, ensuring appropriate escalation and messaging via business forums.

  • Support regional/country teams during risk steward reviews and internal audits; ensure alignment to SOX, IFRS and Basel III control requirements.
  • Drive operational effectiveness: maintain high-quality data in systems of record, timely refreshes, and cascade regulatory/policy changes.
  • Build proactive risk management capability through training completion tracking, awareness sessions, and development/governance of key risk indicators.
  • Deliver stakeholder visibility and remediation: produce metrics/dashboards/toolkits, run regular stakeholder 1:1s, and close audit/regulatory actions on time while promoting a strong control culture under the 3 Lines of Defence.

To be successful you will:

  • Strong risk management knowledge across RCA, control rating, issue/action management, internal/external event management, and data quality within risk/control frameworks.
  • Experience delivering risk management activities in a global organisation; exposure to resilience, cyber security, regulatory and/or operational risk is an advantage.
  • Confident decision-maker, able to make timely, well-judged calls under pressure.
  • Strong analytical capability to interpret information and generate actionable insights.
  • Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills, communicating effectively at all seniority levels.
  • Quick learner with ability to deep-dive and become SME across multiple Business Risk domains.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable; able to manage complex, time-sensitive, and often restricted priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective in matrix environments, working across jurisdictions and multiple stakeholders to meet deadlines.
  • Produces succinct, executive-ready outputs suitable for senior management and external parties; proactively identifies issues and drives structured stakeholder discussions.
  • Independent and collaborative team player with strong written/verbal communication, commercial awareness, and strong Excel/PowerPoint skills; exposure to QlikSense/Power BI and a relevant degree preferred.
