About the role

We are looking for a Risk Business Partner to establish a consistent, decision-useful approach to risk across a global portfolio of major capital projects. In this newly created role, you’ll act as a trusted partner to project and functional leaders across the Asia Pacific region, connecting project risk practices with the Group Risk program and helping teams make risk and uncertainty explicit in investment and delivery decisions.

This is an opportunity to design and embed a portfolio-wide risk program, influence high-value capital decisions and work with senior leaders across commodities and regions. What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Manager Project Management Systems, Risk & Assurance and working within Rio Tinto Projects, you will be:

• Designing and orchestrating the Major Capital Project Risk Program, including objectives, minimum requirements, standards, tools and portfolio risk cadence.
• Connecting project risk practices with the Group Risk program so material risks are escalated and disclosed through the appropriate governance forums.
• Preparing and facilitating quarterly capital project risk forums, risk deep-dives and clear risk insights for senior decision-makers.
• Supporting project teams to establish risk programs, complete initial risk assessments and strengthen risk submissions for stage-gate and investment decisions.
• Leading annual risk refreshes and applying quality assurance and quality control across project risk programs, including follow-through on corrective actions.
• Providing expert facilitation and leadership on emerging risk topics in complex, fast-moving project environments in geographically dispersed locations.
• Building and sustaining a capable network of Risk Coordinators through coaching, training and practical guidance.
• Collaborating with Project Services, Project Controls, Health, Safety and Environment, Product Group teams, Integrated Assurance and other internal and external stakeholders.

Required for Success

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Expertise in capital project risk management and enterprise risk management, including the ability to design standards, minimum requirements, governance and practical tools.
• Demonstrated experience working in global major or mega capital project environments spanning multiple product groups and facilitating risk assessments and decision-informing risk discussions.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and multidisciplinary project teams without direct authority, and to communicate complex risk context clearly in writing and verbally.
• Experience applying quality assurance and quality control to risk programs, and coaching or building capability across a network of practitioners.

Helpful for Success

• Experience supporting stage-gate, investment committee or major capital approval processes, including the preparation or review of project risk submissions.
• Experience developing portfolio risk reporting, facilitating executive risk forums or conducting deep-dives into high-stakes and emerging exposures.
• Experience working across geographically dispersed teams, commodities or Product Groups in the Asia Pacific region.
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, science or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
