About The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Risk and Compliance Manager to join our team to safeguard our operations and proactively assess and mitigate risks across the firm. This role is critical in fostering a robust risk management culture and ensuring that all risk, business continuity, AML/CTF, and privacy related activities align with the strategic goals and regulatory requirements of our legal practice.

The Risk and Compliance Manager will report to the CEO and work closely with key stakeholders to identify, assess and address potential risks, ensuring that Bartier Perry operates within its risk appetite and maintains compliance with legislative and contractual obligations, as well as industry standards.

This ‘hands-on’ role is available either full-time or part-time with a minimum of 4 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Act as the firm’s AML Compliance Officer (a statutory appointment), leading the, monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement of the firm’s AML/CTF framework, program and screening system to ensure compliance with our Regulatory obligations
  • Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive risk management and compliance programs, Ensure client compliance by actively participating in tender processes, developing and implementing key client protocols, ensuring contractual obligations are met, and producing comprehensive client reports.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to maintain high standards of compliance and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and implementation.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and reviews to identify potential compliance and privacy risks and ensure any gaps are addressed promptly.
  • Develop and implement initiatives for the continuous improvement of risk, compliance and privacy management practices.
  • Monitor and analyse regulatory changes, ensuring the firm’s policies are up-to-date and compliant.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to provide guidance on compliance-related issues.
  • Lead investigations into compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs relating to privacy, risk and compliance, AML/CTF, and business continuity, across the firm.
  • Serve as a member of the Business Risk Committee and report to the Board on behalf of this committee.
  • Attend the Monthly Business Operations (MBO) meetings and present to this leadership forum as appropriate
  • Act as the firms AML Compliance Officer and Risk & Compliance Officer
  • Prepare reports for the Board, senior management, key clients and regulatory bodies as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5+ years of proven risk, compliance and privacy management experience in a similar role, preferably in legal or professional services.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the AML/CTF regime in financial, legal or professional services environments
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Risk Management and/or Compliance or Law
  • Demonstrated experience in tender processes and management of contractual compliance obligations.
  • Strong experience in data analysis, risk assessment, and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey risk-related information to various stakeholders, including senior management and the Board.
  • Financial and non-financial risk acumen, together with broad business experience across operational processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.

Note – the successful candidate will be expected to undergo relevant probity and integrity checks, including a Police check and AML/CTF screening check to satisfy the requirements of the role.
