Join TSSA’s Risk team and play a key role in advancing public safety across Ontario. As a Risk Advisor, you’ll use data, risk assessment methodologies, and analytical expertise to identify emerging safety risks and support evidence-based regulatory decisions. Your insights will help prioritize inspections, inform compliance strategies, and drive proactive actions that make a meaningful impact on public safety.

Your Key Contributions

• Assess Safety Risks: Apply risk assessment methodologies to evaluate public safety risks and support regulatory decision-making.
• Analyze Risk Data: Review incident, inspection, and operational data to identify trends, emerging risks, and key risk drivers.
• Support Risk-Based Planning: Develop and maintain risk indicators, scoring models, and prioritization tools to inform inspections and compliance activities.
• Provide Risk Advice: Review risk assessments, operational plans, and safety initiatives, providing practical recommendations to improve safety outcomes.
• Support Investigations: Facilitate In-Depth Root Cause Analyses (IDRCA) and contribute to incident investigations by identifying contributing factors and lessons learned.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with Operations, Data Analytics, and other stakeholders to strengthen risk-informed decision-making and enhance analytical tools.
• Document and Communicate Findings: Prepare clear, defensible risk assessments, methodologies, and reports that support transparency and quality assurance.
• Promote Continuous Improvement: Participate in cross-functional initiatives and stay current on emerging risk management practices, regulatory trends, and public safety issues.

Your Qualifications & Key Strengths:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering.

Experience:

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in risk engineering including risk assessment methods, safety analysis, engineering analysis, or a related technical safety advisory role, including progressive experience supporting evaluations within a regulatory, public safety, industrial, utilities, transportation, or compliance-based decision making
• Experience analyzing data, identifying trends, and developing actionable recommendations to support decision-making.
• Experience facilitating discussions, risk assessment workshops, incident investigations, or stakeholder engagement activities is considered an asset

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of risk management principles, methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) and standards (e.g., ISO 31000).
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex technical, operational, and safety-related information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with data visualization, reporting, or analytics tools is an asset.
• Proficiency with Hazard Identification applications (FMEA Pro, PHA Pro) and familiarity with data visualization, reporting, or analytics tools is an asset.
• Ability to conduct Quantitative Risk Analysis (Probabilistic Risk Assessments) such as consequence and frequency analysis and risk estimation.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within established timelines.

Hiring Range Details: The hiring range for this role is $72,000 - $90,000. The annual salary may vary within this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications,
