Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a motivated individual to join our Land Services team as a Right of Way Agent Trainee in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.

This is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on training and mentorship with the goal of developing you into an independent Right of Way Agent. No prior right-of-way experience is required. The ideal candidate will possess an active North Carolina Real Estate Broker License, enjoy learning, and be eager to develop new skills in real estate, negotiations, and public infrastructure. This position will support transportation, utility, water, and infrastructure projects throughout North Carolina.

Right of Way Agents acquire property rights needed for public infrastructure projects. The profession combines elements of real estate, negotiations, problem solving, and relationship building. As a Right of Way Agent, you will work directly with property owners, attorneys, appraisers, surveyors, engineers, utility companies, and government agencies to help deliver projects that improve communities throughout North Carolina.

Our professionals work with property owners, municipalities, utility providers, and government agencies to acquire the property rights necessary to deliver critical infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

As a Right of Way Agent Trainee, you will work alongside experienced acquisition agents and project managers to learn the right-of-way profession and support active projects throughout North Carolina.

• Shadow experienced agents to learn right-of-way acquisition procedures and industry best practices.
• Assist with property research, ownership verification, and title review.
• Support the preparation of acquisition documents, easement agreements, deeds, and project correspondence.
• Learn to communicate project impacts and acquisition requirements to property owners.
• Assist with negotiations for easements and property acquisitions.
• Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, appraisers, attorneys, utility providers, and public agencies.
• Track parcel acquisition progress and maintain project records.
• Perform administrative and project support tasks as needed.
• Develop the skills necessary to independently manage parcel assignments and negotiations.

Qualifications

• No prior right-of-way experience required.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred, or a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field.
• Active North Carolina Real Estate Broker License required.
• North Carolina Notary Public commission preferred but not required.
• Motivated self-starter with a desire to learn, grow, and develop new skills.
• Experience in real estate, sales, negotiations, banking, mortgage lending, title work, appraisal, mediation, social work, construction management, engineering, project coordination, customer service, or similar fields is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting with a wide range of people.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Proficient in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication.
• Valid driver's license required and willingness to travel throughout North Carolina.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
