Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Waltham Forest to assist with the appointment of a Reviews Officer, on a 4-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £23.54 - £31.03 per hour

The Reviews Officer will be responsible for reviewing homelessness decisions, preparing legally robust decision letters, and ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, guidance, and case law. This role requires extensive experience within a London Local Authority and a proven background in homelessness reviews and accommodation placements.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Homelessness Code of Guidance, Review Regulations, and relevant case law when determining reviews.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive, and legally defensible review decision letters within statutory timescales.
  • Investigate complex homelessness cases, gathering and assessing relevant evidence.
  • Work collaboratively with Housing Options, Accommodation, Legal Services, and external partner agencies.
  • Monitor compliance with legislation and contribute to service improvements and best practice.
  • Support the delivery of a high-quality homelessness review service while maintaining accurate case records.

Qualification:

  • Evidence of continuous professional development within Housing or Homelessness Services is advantageous.

Essentials

  • Experience making offers of Temporary Accommodation or accommodation to discharge the Relief Duty or the Section 193(2) Housing Duty.
  • Experience managing Accommodation Placement Teams is essential.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working within homelessness or housing services.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Homelessness Code of Guidance, Review Regulations, and relevant case law.
  • Previous experience working within a London Local Authority
