Job Description

About the Practice

We are a large, established dermatology practice with 9 locations delivering medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology services across a diverse patient population and complex payer mix. As we continue to grow, we are investing in building a high-performing, centralized revenue cycle management team to protect and maximize revenue across all locations.

We are seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Manager to lead and oversee all billing and RCM operations across our 9-location dermatology practice. This is a leadership role responsible for managing a remote billing team, driving performance across the full revenue cycle, and ensuring our RCM function operates at the highest standard of accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned RCM professional who has led billing teams in a multi-location healthcare or specialty practice environment. You understand how to build a team, read the numbers, identify what is broken, and fix it — while keeping your people accountable and supported.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a remote RCM team including billers, coders, AR specialists, and denial staff across all 9 practice locations
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular one-on-ones, and deliver timely, constructive feedback to direct reports
  • Manage staffing levels, workload distribution, and team capacity to ensure all billing functions are covered efficiently
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new billing team members on practice systems, workflows, and performance standards
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development within the RCM team

Revenue Cycle Oversight

  • Own the full revenue cycle from charge capture and claim submission through payment posting, denial management, and AR resolution
  • Ensure claims are submitted accurately and on time across all 9 locations and all payer types
  • Monitor and manage AR aging buckets, ensuring accounts are worked within appropriate timelines and escalated as needed
  • Oversee denial management and appeals processes, ensuring high-dollar and complex accounts receive timely, expert resolution
  • Review and approve write-offs, adjustments, and escalated account resolutions within established authority limits

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track, analyze, and report on key RCM performance metrics including clean claim rate, denial rate, days in AR, collection rate, and net collection percentage
  • Prepare and present monthly RCM performance reports to practice leadership and the CFO
  • Identify trends, variances, and performance gaps and develop action plans to address them
  • Build and maintain RCM dashboards and reporting tools that provide real-time visibility into billing performance across all locations
  • Benchmark performance against dermatology industry standards and drive continuous improvement toward best-in-class metrics

Compliance & Payer Relations

  • Ensure all billing and coding practices comply with federal and state regulations, payer contracts, and CMS guidelines
  • Oversee HIPAA compliance within all RCM operations and maintain appropriate safeguards for protected health information
  • Manage payer relationships and serve as the escalation point for complex payer disputes, contract issues, and credentialing matters
  • Stay current on dermatology-specific coding updates, payer policy changes, and regulatory developments affecting the revenue cycle
  • Coordinate with compliance and legal counsel on audit responses, overpayment refunds, and payer investigations as needed

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Evaluate and optimize RCM workflows, tools, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and collections performance
  • Lead implementation of process improvements, policy updates, and technology enhancements across the billing function
  • Develop and maintain billing policies, procedures, and training materials for the RCM team
  • Collaborate with practice management, clinical staff, and IT on front-end improvements that reduce denials and improve charge capture
  • Identify automation opportunities and work with vendors or internal teams to implement solutions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with practice administrators and office managers across all 9 locations to resolve billing issues and improve front-end workflows
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership on documentation improvement, coding accuracy, and charge capture completeness
  • Provide RCM guidance and education to non-billing staff to reduce preventable errors and improve overall revenue performance

Required Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of medical billing and revenue cycle experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Demonstrated experience managing a billing team in a multi-location healthcare, specialty, or dermatology practice
  • Strong knowledge of the full revenue cycle including charge entry, coding, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and AR
  • Working knowledge of dermatology CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding across medical, surgical, and cosmetic service lines
  • Proficiency with practice management and billing software used in specialty or dermatology settings
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret RCM metrics, identify root causes, and drive measurable improvement
  • Strong leadership and communication skills — you can manage performance, deliver feedback, and develop people effectively
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote leadership role with a distributed team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience managing RCM operations for a dermatology, plastic surgery, or aesthetics practice
  • Experience with Modernizing Medicine (EMA), Nextech, or similar dermatology-specific EHR and billing platforms
  • Familiarity with Availity, Waystar, or similar clearinghouse and payer portal platforms
  • CPC, CPMA, CHBME, or other relevant billing, coding, or healthcare management certification
  • Experience building or scaling a remote RCM team from the ground up
  • Background in payer contract negotiation or credentialing management
