The Revenue Cycle Consultantserves as a strategic advisor to healthcare organizations, helping executive leaders improve financial performance byoptimizingrevenue cycle operations andathenaOneworkflowsAs a member of athenahealth's Advisory Services team, this roleleads complex consulting engagements that assess organizational performance,identifyopportunities for transformation, and develop actionable strategies that improve operational efficiency, financial outcomes, and user adoption. This position partners closely with customer executives and internal cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business value while strengthening long-term client relationships. Based in anyathenaoffice orremove, this role reports to the Advisory Services Executive Director.

About the Team

Advisory Services partners with healthcare organizations to maximize the value of their athenahealth investment through strategic consulting, operational excellence, and industryexpertise The team collaborates with executive sponsors, practice administrators, revenue cycle leaders, and clinical stakeholders to evaluate business performance,optimizeathenaOneworkflows, andidentifyopportunities that improve operational and financial outcomes. Through data-driven analysis, industry best practices, and consultativepartnership, Advisory Services helps clients navigate change, accelerate adoption, and achieve sustainable improvements across the revenue cycle. In addition to supporting client success, the team contributes to the evolution of athenahealth's consulting methodologies and thought leadership.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex advisory engagements focused on evaluating andoptimizinghealthcare revenue cycle operations, financial performance, andathenaOneworkflows

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive sponsors, revenue cycle leaders, and operational stakeholders by developing strategic recommendations that align technology capabilities with organizational goals.

  • Conduct executive-level operational assessments, workflow analyses, and maturity evaluations toidentifyopportunities for process improvement, organizational transformation, and financial optimization.

  • Develop executive-ready deliverables, including assessment findings, strategic roadmaps, business cases, and presentations that clearly communicate recommendations and expected outcomes.

  • Analyze operational, financial, and workflow performance metrics toidentifytrends and recommend strategies that improve key performance indicators such as clean claim rate, denial rate, days in accounts receivable, net collection rate, and patient financial experience.

  • Partner with Customer Success, Product Management, Implementation, and Support teams to ensure advisory recommendations align with broader customer strategies and athenahealth product capabilities.

  • Mentorconsultants,contribute to the development of consulting methodologies, and support continuous improvement of Advisory Services offerings.

  • Identifyemerging industry trends, customer needs, and opportunities to expand advisory services that improve customer value and organizational performance.

  • Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance workflow analysis, performance benchmarking, client deliverables, and knowledge sharing while evaluating AI-generated insights using professional judgment and ensuring recommendationsremainaccurate, practical, and customer-focused.

  • Travel up to 30% annually to support customer engagements, executive workshops, and industry events.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design and evolution of Advisory Services frameworks, assessment methodologies, and reusable consulting assets.

  • Represent Advisory Services in customer presentations, webinars, conferences, and thought leadership initiatives.

  • Coach and mentor consultants while fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization.

  • Participate in strategic initiatives that improve consulting delivery, operational excellence, and customer outcomes.

  • Stay informed on healthcare policy, reimbursement trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies thatimpactrevenue cycle management.

Expected Education & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Health Information Management, or a related field, oran equivalentexperience.

  • 5-7years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, healthcare operations, consulting, or advisory services.

  • 3+ years leading complex consulting engagements, enterprise initiatives, or cross-functional healthcare transformation projects.

  • Demonstratedexpertiseacross the full revenue cycle, including patient access, insurance verification, charge capture, coding, claims management, denial prevention, payment posting, accounts receivable management, patient collections, and reimbursement optimization.

  • Deep understanding of ambulatory healthcare operations, physician practice management, payer reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare financial performance.

  • Experience conducting executive-level operational assessments,facilitatingstrategic workshops, and presenting recommendations to senior healthcare leaders.

  • Proven ability to influence organizational change through consultative leadership, data-driven recommendations, and executive relationship management.

  • Experience evaluating andoptimizingElectronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) workflows, preferably within cloud-based healthcare technology platforms.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting operational, financial, and performance data to develop strategic recommendations.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, executive presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members, lead without direct authority, and contribute to the growth ofa consultingpractice.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration(MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), ora relateddiscipline.

  • ExpertisewithathenaOneor comparable cloud-based (EHR) and (PM) solutions.

  • Previousexperience in management consulting, advisory services, or healthcare performance improvement.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or similar credentials.

  • Experience supporting large physician organizations, multi-specialty medical groups, community health centers, accountable care organizations (ACOs), or integrated health systems.

  • Experience developing consulting methodologies, service offerings, or thought leadership content.

  • Familiarity with healthcare analytics, benchmarking, and business intelligence platforms.

Expected Compensation

$123,000 - $209,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
