Job Description

First Student is seeking a Retirement Benefits Supervisor to serve as a senior-level individual contributor responsible for supporting the administration of its retirement and outside union plans. This role will function as a trusted subject matter expert, partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors, and help ensure employees receive accurate, timely, and compliant retirement benefits support.

The position supports employee experience, regulatory compliance, vendor management, and continuous improvement across retirement benefits processes.

Responsibilities

Plan Administration & Compliance

• Lead key annual retirement plan activities, including nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 filings and audits, required minimum distribution reviews, and highly compensated employee determinations.
• Ensure plans are administered in compliance with federal and state requirements and plan provisions.
• Maintain accurate process documentation for assigned retirement administration activities.

Team Leadership & Escalation Support

• Resolve escalated retirement plan matters, including complex benefit calculations and participant inquiries.
• Coach and support retirement benefits team members as they navigate complex matters, policies, and procedures.

Data, Systems & Process Improvement

• Lead data reviews, clean-up initiatives, and related team coordination.
• Support system and process changes, including requirements review, user acceptance testing, and interface validation.
• Analyze benefits data and costs to identify trends, improve efficiency, and support program enhancements.

Projects & Stakeholder Partnership

• Support special projects, acquisitions, and broader HR initiatives through analysis, recommendations, and technical expertise.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure accurate administration, timely issue resolution, and service improvement.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 9+ years of retirement administration experience.
• Strong knowledge of retirement regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Experience with unionized workforces and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
• Supervisory or team lead experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Power BI, or similar reporting tools.
• Advanced data analytics, modeling, or forecasting experience.
• Workday knowledge.

Compensation ranges from $90,000-$95,000 depending on experience.

Language Requirement

This role requires English proficiency. Federal, state, and local requirements, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, require training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications be conducted in English.
