About the Role

We are hiring a data-driven and results-oriented Retention Manager to take ownership of lifecycle marketing programs across our portfolio of clients. This position will play a critical role in driving sustainable business growth for the brands we serve — focusing on customer loyalty, maximizing repeat revenue, and increasing Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) across diverse verticals and business models.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on strategist who can manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, operate with a high degree of proactivity and urgency, and be equally comfortable presenting campaign roadmaps in a client weekly performance review as they are building flows. This role will have one direct report.

What You'll Do

Strategic Client Partnership

Serve as the primary retention strategist for assigned client accounts. Proactively surface opportunities, risks, and recommendations — never waiting for a client to ask. Set and manage expectations, drive agenda in client meetings, and translate complex data into clear, actionable narratives that build trust and demonstrate value.

Thought Leadership & Best Practices

Stay at the forefront of retention marketing trends, tech stack vendors, and platform capabilities. Bring cross-client learnings and industry benchmarks to every engagement, elevating each client's program with insights they wouldn't have access to on their own. Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing, case study development, and agency IP.

Data-Driven Strategy

Utilize customer data, cohort analysis, and data mining techniques to identify new opportunities, define segmentation strategies, and unlock "next best user actions" and personalized messaging for triggered communications. Own and execute rigorous, 'always-on' testing and optimization roadmaps to continually lift program performance across the client portfolio.

AI-Powered Optimization

Leverage AI and emerging technologies across the retention stack — from predictive segmentation and send-time optimization to generative content and automated insight generation — to drive outsized results for clients faster than traditional methods allow. Stay ahead of the curve on new AI capabilities within platforms like Klaviyo and Attentive, and proactively identify opportunities to apply AI as a competitive advantage across the client portfolio.

Customer LTV & Revenue Growth

Develop and implement client-specific initiatives (including loyalty and subscription programs) focused on driving repeat purchases, increasing customer frequency, and boosting overall LTV and repeat revenue metrics. Benchmark performance across clients and verticals to set ambitious but realistic targets.

List Growth

Drive list growth initiatives for each client account and conduct rigorous testing to maximize email and SMS subscriber acquisition, tailoring approaches based on each brand's audience and acquisition funnel.

Multi-Channel Execution Lead strategy, development, and execution across all key retention channels for assigned clients, including:

Email Marketing: Managing segmentation, content personalization, and optimization of all transactional and promotional email campaigns.

SMS Marketing: Developing targeted mobile messaging campaigns for timely promotions and service updates.

Push Notifications: Utilizing in-app and mobile push to drive engagement and feature adoption.

Direct Mail: Integrating direct mail into the lifecycle strategy for high-value customer segments and special promotions.

Acquisition Support

Collaborate with paid media and acquisition teams (both internal and client-side) to ensure seamless onboarding and activation of new customers, optimizing the early-life journey for conversion and retention.

Reporting, Insights & Optimization

Analyze campaign performance, customer data, and A/B test results to generate insights and continuously improve program effectiveness. Deliver clear, regular client reporting on key metrics such as churn, LTV, repeat purchase rate, and channel-level ROI. Turn every report into a strategic conversation, not just a data readout.

Cross-Functional & Cross-Team Collaboration

Partner with internal creative, paid media, and project management teams to ensure consistent messaging and a unified customer experience across all touchpoints. Coordinate with client-side stakeholders (marketing, product, CX) to align retention efforts with broader brand objectives.

About You

Experience and Education

  • 5–6 years of proven experience in retention marketing, lifecycle marketing, email marketing, or a similar role focused on LTV growth. Agency experience — or experience managing multiple brands/business units simultaneously — is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.

Client Management

Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships with professionalism, urgency, and strategic credibility. Comfortable presenting to senior client stakeholders and leading strategic discussions.

Data Proficiency

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, define measurable metrics, and translate customer insights into actionable strategies. Experience with Looker Studio, Shopify, and Google Analytics is preferred.

Technical Skills

Expertise in Klaviyo and Attentive. Ability to quickly ramp on new platforms as client needs require.

Adaptability

Proven ability to context-switch across brands, verticals, and business models while maintaining high-quality, detail-oriented execution.
