This is where you come in, as Store Designer, you’ll help shape how our customers discover, experience and purchase Article products in-person by designing thoughtful, functional and brand-aligned store environments. You’ll play a key role in designing retail spaces that feel intuitive and inspiring and help bring the Article brand to life in physical spaces.
Why We Need You:
Article is continuing to grow its physical retail presence, and we’re looking for a Store Designer to help create shopping experiences that feel both inspiring and operationally practical. This role will help define how our stores look, flow, and function across different markets and formats.
You’ll partner closely with Construction, Visual Merchandising, Retail Operations, Real Estate, Brand, Category Management, and external partners to design spaces that support customer engagement and long-term scalability. Your work will help us create consistent retail experiences while continuing to evolve how customers discover and interact with Article products in person.
Within your first few months, you’ll support active store projects, contribute to layout and design reviews, and help refine retail design standards across upcoming locations. In your first year, you’ll help shape a scalable store design approach that improves customer experience, supports operational needs, and helps future stores open more efficiently.

What You’ll Do
- You’ll lead the design and planning of Article’s physical retail spaces, helping create intuitive showroom experiences that support how customers interact with our products
- Develop and evolve Article’s retail store design standards, layouts, and customer experience principles
- Create furniture showroom layouts that support customer flow, product storytelling, operational needs, and strong visual merchandising
- Partner closely with Visual Merchandising, Retail Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Brand, and Category Management throughout the store development process
- Lead early test fits and site evaluations to assess customer experience opportunities, operational practicality, and potential design risks
- Translate merchandising concepts into practical, scalable, and buildable store environments
- Guide design intent across fixtures, millwork, lighting, signage, materials, storefronts, and back-of-house planning
- Provide design input that supports lease negotiations, RPF preparation, permit review planning, vendor scoping and construction planning
- Create clear design packages and direction for architects, vendors, and construction partners
- Review layouts, drawings, and vendor outputs to ensure alignment with Article’s retail experience standards
- Apply store-tier design standards to balance customer experience, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Use post-open learnings, customer feedback, and store performance insights to improve future retail locations
- We use G Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Google Docs, Meet, etc) to work and Slack to collaborate and communicate, with your choice of Mac or PC device.
Who You Are
- 6+ years of experience in store design, retail design, retail architecture, or store planning
- Experience designing furniture, home, showroom, lifestyle, specialty retail, or multi-location retail environments
- Strong understanding of customer flow, spatial planning, and retail environments
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with Visual Merchandising, Construction, Operations, and external vendors
- Strong proficiency with retail space planning and design documentation
- Experience reviewing architectural drawings, test fits, millwork packages, and vendor drawings
- Understanding of accessibility considerations, fixture systems, lighting, and material applications
- Ability to identify design risks, operational constraints, and opportunities for simplification or scalability
- Clearly defines what success looks like and how progress is measured
- Encourages accountability, ownership, and above-the-line behaviour across projects and partnerships
- Uses data, customer insights, and business context to make thoughtful design decisions
- Builds strong working relationships through direct communication, collaboration, and continuous feedback
- Encourages learning, adaptability, and continuous improvement across the retail experience
