Job Description

Job purpose

The Retail Sales Strategy & Planning Lead is critical role in enabling High Liner’s commercial success. The Retail Sales Strategy & Planning Lead is a champion of the annual planning process, supports S&OP, and plays a key role in defining our go-to-market strategies, empowering the Sales team to execute with excellence. Additionally, this role plays a strong supporting role in a variety of key business areas such as trade spend optimization, pricing strategy and execution, performance monitoring, innovation performance and forecasting. This position collaborates with Retail Sales, Marketing and Insights, and is responsible for ensuring channel and customer insights are incorporated in the development of brand and category plans.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead discussions on Retail planning outlook to support accurate forecasting, strategic plans, and in-year plan achievement
  • Supports HLF forecasting, demand planning and consensus approach, via the S&OP process, facilitating ongoing ‘Risks and Opportunities’ identification and timely solutions
  • Lead or support strategic projects that enhance Sales Planning capabilities
  • Drive the activity/solutions gap to sales forecast and budget. Ensure that cross-functionally gaps are reviewed, resolved or escalated with recommendations and alternatives for closure. Lead and facilitate cross functional teams to coordinate execution to rectify gap to plan.
  • Plays a leadership role in the innovation process, working cross-functional partners to deliver against Innovation Best Practices, KPIs, within Slotting Fee Budget and Planogram key launch windows
  • Ensures Commercial and Brand plans are built with channel and customer strategies in mind, leading to the development of gold standards and executional plans for the Sales Team
  • Drives the development of Retail Channel and Customer strategies to address the changing needs of the diverse shoppers across all channels in the North American retail marketplace Contributes to the development and evolution of the Retail Customer Segmentation and Resource Distortion Model
  • Works with Sales and FP&A to drive and deliver Price/Trade optimization, leveraging RGM guardrails and principles
  • Ensures that price, promotion, distribution, shelving, and retail strategies are developed with a relentless focus on flawless execution and delighting the shopper
  • Leads the channel/segment trade/promotional deployment strategy (trade elements, timing, areas of focus) and the activities to drive growth and profitability across customer portfolio
  • Drives optimization of retail trade spend. Drives accountability in sales on annual trade spend budgeting activities. Evaluates/screens the strategic and financial fit of any incremental Sales spending requests to deliver ROI
  • Partners with Marketing, Category Management and Insights teams to ensure selling materials are grounded in insights and tell a compelling story outlining key customer benefits

  • Category Management: leverages Category Management generated insights to develop/execute fully integrated brand/category strategies and activities for customers.
  • Retail Expertise: Strong understanding of the North American retailer landscape and how it’s evolving in a post-pandemic environment; 7+ years of experience in CPG industry, with a preference for customer-facing experience
  • University degree in Business, Commerce or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and listening skills
  • Solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills
  • Strong selling, presentation, strategic thinking, negotiating, organizational, financial analysis
  • Solid computer skills with focus on Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Salary Transparency: High Liner Foods’ compensation offerings are founded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $110K - $140K; the base pay is offered based on a variety of factors including geographical market location, and may vary depending on job grading practices, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity factors. As part of our total rewards offering, employees may be eligible to participate in an annual short-term incentive program [and long-term incentive program] (for Dir+) subject to program eligibility requirements.
