Job Description

General Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Retail Sales Lead supports the Store Management Team by promoting operational excellence, delivering exceptional customer service, and guiding team members in daily tasks and priorities. This role acts as a knowledgeable in‑store resource, applying automotive parts identification skills to assist customers with complex product questions, compatibility issues, and system‑level concerns. The Retail Sales Lead also provides hands‑on training and technical mentorship to team members, helping strengthen overall product knowledge and customer‑service capability. In addition, the Retail Sales Lead may serve in a supervisor‑support role as assigned as advanced responsibilities. The role is responsible for upholding all safety standards, store policies, and customer‑experience expectations while maintaining a positive, respectful, and solutions‑focused demeanor. Presence during high‑traffic periods—such as weekends, sales events, and other peak times—is essential to ensure consistent support for both customers and the team.

Essential Functions:

Safety and Environmental

  • Demonstrate and reinforce a work environment where no task is performed in an unsafe or environmentally unsound manner, ensuring safety is the primary consideration in all operations.
  • Verify that team members comply with all Company and legal safety and environmental standards at all times. Under management direction, may oversee staff training and certification in safety and environmental compliance areas.
  • Ensure the assigned area maintains cleanliness and organization, promoting a safe and environmentally secure environment for both employees and customers.
  • Wear assigned PPE correctly and consistently whenever it’s required.

Team Lead and Development

  • Model effective teamwork by providing proactive feedback, encouraging open dialogue, demonstrating integrity, and adhering to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Set clear expectations, provide on-the-job training through continuous feedback, inform team members of changes in procedures or standards, and report performance concerns to supervisors or managers.
  • Communicate Company policies to team members and ensure consistent adherence across the team.
  • With supervisory support, inspire team members toward goal achievement and cultivate an enthusiastic, solutions-oriented team attitude.
  • Build and maintain advanced parts‑identification knowledge by proactively studying product guides, system lookups, and in‑store inventory resources to better support customer and team needs.
  • Provide hands‑on mentorship to team members by demonstrating effective parts‑identification techniques and modeling how to resolve complex product or compatibility questions.
  • Lead ongoing training efforts—both formal and on‑the‑job—to increase team members’ confidence and accuracy in identifying parts, interpreting product data, and navigating lookup systems.
  • Provides feedback on individual and team skill gaps related to parts identification and collaborate with supervisors or managers to ensure additional training, job aids, or refresher coaching sessions are provided.
  • Reinforce learning by offering real‑time feedback during daily tasks, encouraging team members to ask questions, and creating an environment where continuous improvement in product knowledge is expected.

Operations & Compliance

  • Identify barriers to success, actively problem-solve, and collaborate with supervisors or managers to adjust hourly and daily action plans to align store activities with daily goals.
  • Establish clear performance objectives throughout each shift, delegate and reassign tasks as needed to execute action plans and regularly communicate variances to supervisors or managers to enable timely corrective action.
  • Address employee relations situations and customer concerns, enforce policies, and assist with requests. De-escalate conflicts immediately and escalate matters to supervisors or managers as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisors or managers with sales or production reports as needed.
  • Ensure safeguarding of all Company assets and maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Validate customer receipts, perform cash verification, and complete accurate register countdowns to ensure compliance with Company cash-handling procedures and support the safeguarding of all financial assets.
  • Support store operations by completing housekeeping, janitorial, and other assigned duties. This may include cleaning tires, carrying batteries, mopping floors, and similar tasks.
  • When assigned advanced responsibilities, may include key-carrying duties, overseeing store opening or closing procedures, assisting with Management Operating System data entry, or participating in the development of store action plans.

Job Conditions

The Retail Sales Lead works in both indoor and outdoor environments within an auto salvage yard setting, with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, automotive fluids, and noise from machinery and customer activity. A variable schedule including weekends, holidays, and peak sale days is required, along with adherence to safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supporting customers directly and guiding less-experienced team members.
  • Experience handling customer payments across multiple payment methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and email applications.
  • Ability to work a flexible retail schedule—including weekends, holidays, occasional overtime—and to support nearby store locations as assigned by management.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly and professionally in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with automotive parts, including recognizing common components and understanding basic product information.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, stretching, and lifting up to 40 pounds to perform customer care, product relocation, and facility maintenance functions. Manual dexterity is essential for handling tools, performing housekeeping duties such as mopping and sweeping, and completing assigned Task List responsibilities. Sufficient vision and the ability to remain on your feet for the entire work shift are necessary to perform all job functions safely and effectively.
