Coordinates and supervises the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to ensure efficient operation of the Retail Pharmacy. Employee serves as active leader in the supervision of the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the Retail Pharmacy. Employee oversees services provided by the retail pharmacy and the discharge prescription service. This position will care for patients in the neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines.
Licensure or other certifications: Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy. Registered Georgia Pharmacy license required.
Educational Requirements: B.S Pharm or Pharm D. from an accredited college of pharmacy
Minimum Experience: Three (3) years experience as a retail pharmacist required. Other:

Responsible for the quality of work of the employees in the department to ensure maximum utilization of Pharmacy services. Assist the Pharmacy Manager or Director in preparing the schedule to include: vacations, weekends and holidays, to assure adequate coverage in the department. Control hours worked. Approval of time off.Provides or ensures the provision of orientation and training, ongoing educational opportunities to staff as needed.Counsel with employees on their work, attitude, etc., as evidenced by notation in personnel files. Provide individual employees with a record of progress or capabilities. Completes all employee records and reports according to established time frame: Performance evaluations, Productivity data, and Disciplinary actions.
Responsible for proper handling and control of equipment and software utilized by the Retail Pharmacy.
Possesses thorough understanding of third party insurance including billing, prior approval process, audit procedures and preparation.
Proficient with functionality of POS system cash register usage including check out and monitoring procedures.
Promotes professional development of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Make departmental personnel decision or recommendations on an ongoing basis in the areas of employment selection, promotion, demotion, transfer, and/or termination.
Resolves problems and mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.
Monitors all patient parameters and prescription orders to provide safe and effective Pharmaceutical Care. Reviews and interprets prescription orders for all patients. Monitors patient allergies and relevant disease states prior to dispensing medications to any patient. Reviews each prescription for drug interactions and drug/disease interactions, age and dose appropriateness, and drug duplication prior to dispensing any medication. Demonstrates competency with regard to prescription dispensing and meets all counseling requirements required by law. Adheres to USP 795 guidelines when completing non sterile compounding. Able to make appropriate recommendations regarding drug therapy management in regard to formulary and other opportunities for cost effectiveness.Provides more extensive patient counseling where applicable including medication therapy management services, patient adherence monitoring, patient discharge counseling, and other patient related services.
Manages the day to day inventory and supply levels and understands the drug wholesaler order and return process.
Oversees daily operation and operations improvements for the retail pharmacy, and the discharge prescription program service at the medical center.
Encourages and guides others toward the Pharmacy goals. Encourages regular communication, informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Director.Carries out assignments from the Pharmacy Manager or Director in an accurate and timely manner.Assists the Pharmacy Manager or Director in preparing annual operating and capital budgets. Maintains the pharmacy in a state of readiness for federal, state and local regulatory agency inspections and/or third party payor audits.
Confers with representatives from other departments when special needs are registered.
Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, customers, and pharmacy personnel to provide quality care.
Responsible for the proper handling and distribution of controlled substances to comply with federal and state regulations.
