Position Summary
The Retail Buyer is responsible for the selection, purchasing, merchandising, and financial performance of tennis, pickleball, and fitness retail (hard and soft goods). This role combines strong product knowledge, vendor partnerships, financial accountability, and a member-focused service approach to create an exceptional retail experience that supports revenue and member satisfaction. Compensation for this position is: $27 - $35 per hour + commission.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage orders, inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and strong brand partnerships
- Maintain deep product knowledge to support staff and members
- Monitor sales, inventory levels, and merchandise performance to drive buying decisions
- Collaborate on merchandising, floor presentation, and seasonal assortments
- Support marketing initiatives, promotions, and retail events
- Manage budgets, margins, and open-to-buy to achieve financial goals
- Conduct quarterly inventory and support peak-season operations
Qualifications
Qualifications
- 3+ years of retail buying or merchandising experience (club or specialty retail preferred)
- Strong knowledge of tennis, pickleball, and/or fitness products
- Understanding of retail financials (margins, inventory turn, sell-through, open-to-buy)
- Experience with POS and inventory systems; proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Member-focused mindset with attention to detail and follow-through
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, service-oriented club environment
