Customer service, sales, cashiering, stocking, sorting, inventory management, sizing, color coordination, and cleaning activities in a retail store.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive donations: greet donors, accept and unload donated materials, enter customer general information into a smart device (such as a phone or tablet), and thank donors for their donated items.
Processing: sort, separate, and hang clothing and household items. Sort, test, clean, and mark small appliances, housewares, shoes, seasonal items, and other assorted merchandise.
Cashiering: Conduct sales transactions and maintain control of cash and credit card transactions by following proper procedures for voids, discounts, refunds, checks, and credit card payments.
Cleaning duties (including but not limited to) bathrooms, floors, shelves, windows, break room, store fixtures, fitting rooms, dock area, store exterior, and merchandise counters.  Report issues that require maintenance repairs.
Customer service activities (including but not limited to) customer assistance, pricing merchandise, fitting room, offering recycling bags, explaining store operations, and other sales techniques that may enhance the store’s sales and community image.
Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
QualificationsEducation and/or Experience:
High school or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
6 months of related experience or training is highly desirable.
Excellent customer service skills.
Prior cashiering experience is a plus. Knowledge of electronic devices.
Equipment, Machines, and tools used: Cash register, pricing and tagging materials, box cutters, merchandise movement, and storage containers.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walk for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 20 pounds. With assistance, you must be able to push/pull rolling carts weighing up to 530 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in a general retail.

How we do it: Goodwill engages in a unique social entrepreneurism model that funds services and employment for over 3,100 persons with disabilities in South Florida. Although most known for its Goodwill donation centers and retail stores, the organization’s other entrepreneurial businesses include Apparel Manufacturing, Custodial Services, Laundry Services and other Business Services, which directly train and employ a large number of people with disabilities while providing mission funding. South Florida’s Goodwill Industries is one of the most cost-effective non-profits in the U.S with 96% of its budget going directly to job training programs.

But our work is not easy or quick. It takes a long-term commitment to battle employment barriers such as physical or mental disabilities, economic instability, or lack of education.
