Grant Thornton’s well established Financial Services Restructuring & Insolvency team (FSR&I) specialise in supporting firms in the financial services sector navigate periods of stress and distress by providing restructuring and insolvency services.

We help lenders, investors and management teams with challenging situations arising from financial or operational issues which may be driven by changing market conditions or regulatory intervention. Our expertise includes turnaround services, restructuring solutions, wind down and contingency planning, business reviews and formal insolvency appointments.

The FSR&I team support a wide range of financial services firms, including insurers, brokers, clearing banks, e-money and payment service providers, funds, and investment managers, among others. In recent years, the team has worked on some of the largest and high-profile assignments, including Greensill Capital, Small World UK, Artis Loanco, Loans at Home, Wonga, Brighthouse and CashEuroNet as well as a number of confidential engagements across the financial services sector.

You will work as part of a diverse team who are passionate about understanding the issues that are important to our clients. The constantly evolving financial services landscape calls for a proactive approach, so you will need to push ideas harder and ask the difficult questions to give clients the assurance they need to support them through challenging periods of their lifecycle.

A look into the role

As a Manager in the team, you will:

Own your own work

  • You will be responsible for delivering on a portfolio of case work
  • You will have junior team members working with you and for you on case or advisory assignments and therefore need to manage team members effectively.
  • Hands on experience in the different aspects of restructuring advisory and formal insolvency appointments, with a variety of FS clients
  • You will spend time undertaking financial analysis, contingency planning, trading insolvencies and investigations work on the cases you're supporting on and communicating this with key stakeholders, including senior team members, solicitors and other professional advisers etc
  • You will also compile reports, undertake financial analysis of documentation received, prepare strategy notes and risk documentation as well as statutory work in support of insolvency appointments (e.g. reporting, receipts and payments, billings management)
  • The FSR&I team have a number of sub-sector focuses (e.g. digital assets, e-money, insurers, banks, consumer credit, international) where you will support with research on potential opportunities, identifying targets and keeping up to date with sub-sector specific developments
  • You will assist the team in preparing and pitching for new assignments
  • You will take responsibility for compliance, budgets, and billing, providing a timely and profitable service in accordance with the highest professional standards and contributing to the continued growth and development of the department.
  • Understands and applies best practice regarding departmental procedures, risk management, compliance and take on processes

Build your brand

  • Starts contributing to the department's marketing efforts including attending events, suggesting new initiatives, organising events, following up targets and contacts.
  • Begins to understand and demonstrate an understanding of the market and current developments (both work givers and competitors).
  • Builds a good network of contacts both internally and externally and maintains these contacts.
  • Contributes to internal and external presentations for both the department and the firm.
  • Understands the services of Grant Thornton and is able to spot cross selling opportunities.

Joining us as a Manager, the minimum criteria is:

  • You must be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) for this role.
  • Open to furthering your knowledge of the UK insolvency regime by completing CPI / ICAEW Certificate of Insolvency Qualification

It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

  • Desire to expand your knowledge of the UK’s financial services sector
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt to evolving situations and operate in a fast-moving environment
