Position Purpose:
Performs technical procedures related to the treatment of patients with Cardiopulmonary disorders, including theassembly of equipment and administration of respiratory medications, under the direct supervision of a RespiratoryTherapist.
What theRespiratory Therapy ExternWill Do:
Cleans, assembles, andmaintainsall Respiratory Care Department equipment within scope of practice. Utilizes supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner.
Under general supervision by a Respiratory Therapist, perform tasks according to policy and standard procedures. Monitors patient response to therapy and providestimely,accuratedocumentation in electronicmedicalrecords Therapies include administration of nasal oxygen, nebulized medication treatments,tracheostomy care, and Pulmonary Hygiene therapy (e.g.; Acapella, Thera-Pep, etc.), ECGs, to patientsasprescribed bya physician
(Note: For Respiratory Therapy Student Tech’s only, who haveaccomplishedthe theory and clinical module inP&PD, ABG puncture with analyzation, and/or non-invasive ventilation such as BIPAP/CPAP successfully inschool and have completed a THMU RC competency. Willestablishand maintain applicable Respiratory Carecompetencies.)
Accurately completes Electronic Health Record documentation per departmentstandards;andmaintainstheOrder Entry and Charging system for servicesrendered
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED;or current student in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and/or college level courses.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Successful graduation from anaccredited Respiratory Therapy program is expected within18 monthsof hire
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)credentialby the National Board of RespiratoryCare (NBRC)isexpected within 6 months following graduation.
