Respiratory Therapist - Full Time Nights

Pay: $36.91/hr - $48.43/hr

Department: Respiratory TherapistSchedule: Full-Time, Nights

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides respiratory therapy treatments, pulmonary diagnostic testing, and patient assessments for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Working under the direction of the Medical Director and Cardiopulmonary Services leadership, this role develops and implements respiratory care plans, monitors patient response to treatment, and ensures accurate clinical documentation. The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in supporting positive patient outcomes, emergency response readiness, and high-quality cardiopulmonary care across the hospital. May serve as a lead therapist during assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory care services based on physician orders and patient needs.
  • Administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, airway management, and mechanical ventilation support.
  • Perform pulmonary diagnostic testing and monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Assess and document respiratory status, treatment effectiveness, and changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Respond to respiratory emergencies, code situations, and rapid response events as needed.
  • Educate patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment use.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with respiratory care protocols, infection prevention practices, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Provide department support and leadership coverage when serving as Lead Respiratory Therapist during assigned shifts.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Current ACLS certification through the AHA or ARC.
  • Current PALS certification through the AHA or obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy practices, pulmonary diagnostics, ventilator management, and cardiopulmonary care.
  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, communication, and clinical documentation skills.

Preferred

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of acute care hospital experience.
  • Previous experience serving in a lead or charge respiratory therapy capacity.

Saint Michaels Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that provides employees the flexibility to tailor benefits according to their individual needs. Benefits may vary based on collective bargaining agreement requirements and/or the employment status, i.e. full-time or part-time. The current compensation range for this role is $36.91 to $48.43. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
