Job Description

Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapist I must hold the CRT or RRT redential from the NBRC and must be licensed to practice Respiratory Care in the State of Texas. The Respiratory Therapist I shall deliver competent and compassionate Respiratory Care Services for patients of all age groups through the use of accepted Clinical Practice Guidelines for assessing, treating and documenting the effects of care for the Respiratory Services provided to patients. The Respiratory Therapist I shall work cooperatively with Physicians, Nursing Staff, Ancillary Staff, and other members of the patient care team to maintain standards for professional practices. The Respiratory Therapist I must be able to perform and monitor Moderately Complex Testing as related to the daily function and operation of the Blood Gas Laboratory. These functions of the Respiratory Therapist I shall be carried out according to departmental and hospital policies, the hospital's mission statement, and the philosophy of the department's code of ethics.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner program.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in the provision of hospital Respiratory Care Services.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Certified (CRT) or Registered (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care. Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner License. BLS Healthcare Provider CPR Course Certification through the American Heart Association.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

The Respiratory Therapist I, working in a staff position, shall utilize the policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, and standards of patient care set forth by the Cardiopulmonary Department and OakBend Medical Center to deliver Respiratory Care Services to all patients and perform and monitory Moderately Complex Testing as it relates to the operation of the Blood Gas Laboratory. The employee must accept assigned responsibilities as a member of the Health Care team. Successful completion of other hospital or department specific training courses may be required.
