The therapist is expected to be able to perform all modes of Respiratory care as defined in the department policy and procedure manual. These tasks will include, but are not limited too, delivery of small volume nebulizers, drawing of arterial blood gases, maintaining artificial airways and mechanical ventilation. The therapist must be competent to deliver these therapies to all age groups ranging from perinatal to geriatric.

Hiring Range: $27.90 - $61.79

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
2. Appropriately documents all care activity performed and charges in the hospital EMR system
3. Participates in hospital and departmental performance improvement activities
4. Demonstrates competency in utilization and maintenance of arterial blood gas machines.
5. Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of all mechanical ventilators
6. Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of the V60 NIPPV
7. Demonstrates competency in proper set up and utilization of all High Flow Oxygen Therapy systems
8. Demonstrates competency in the disinfection, transport and set up of all non-disposable equipment.
9. Adheres to the Hospitals’ Standards of Behavior.
10. Completes all hospital and department annual competencies.

Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care.
2. Licensed in the state of Massachusetts in respiratory care
3. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers (BLSHP).
4. Maintenance of CEU’s in accordance with the regulation of licensure in the state of Massachusetts

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
