A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform targeted rounding in active patient areas to recover assets for processing and re-distribution.
  • Support Respiratory Therapy in many clinical activities under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Clean, deliver, evaluate and inspect specified medical devices, such as infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, PCA pumps, DVT pumps, specialty beds, specialty carts and procedural trays.
  • Document work activity in an electronic database.
  • Stock and take inventory of Respiratory Therapy equipment, supplies and inhaled medications.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, perform EKGs and record vital signs.
  • Set up and download overnight pulse oximetry trend studies.
  • Assist Respiratory Therapists with orders.
  • Follow up and assist with administrative duties.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Akron Caregivers must be a student currently enrolled in an Accredited Respiratory Program * Continuing employment is contingent upon the completion of an Accredited Respiratory Program within 5 years of hire.*
  • Strong background in math and science
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross within new hire period

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Prior healthcare experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a cart of equipment/supplies.
  • Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 lbs.
  • Push/pull loaded carts of equipment in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protection equipment as required by department.
