LOCATION:Santa Fe, NM

STATUS:Part-Time Seasonal

MISSION STATEMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED req
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with the homeless or in a shelter environment preferred.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients
  • Able to handle crisis/emergency services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention, crowd management and conflict resolution skills
  • General knowledge of community resources.
  • Valid food handler’s certificate (or ability to get one within 30 days of hiring).
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to supervise and work with assigned volunteers or staff.
  • Must pass a criminal background check

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrive on time to ensure space is ready for guests’ daytime stay on the days the Resource/Warming Center will be open.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the intake process assuring all guests have completed and understand appropriate paperwork including registration form and rules.
  • Handle signups for showers, laundry, clothing closet, and distribute hygiene items.
  • Oversee serving of lunch.
  • Help with any clean-up or kitchen duties. Ensure that the kitchen and dining areas are cleaned after lunch and that any serving dishes left by the providing group are cleaned and left on the kitchen counter with a note stating who they belong to.
  • After lunch, ensure that tables and chairs are folded up and put away.
  • Interact with the shelter’s guests, demonstrating a respectful, caring presence without any judgmental behavior.
  • Refer guests with any requests for special help to The Salvation Army Social Services daytime staff.
  • In consultation with the Resource/Warming Center coordinator, resolve any disputes arising from guest behavior. Ask any guest(s) who chooses to violate the rules to leave or give them a warning. Police may be phoned if necessary. If police are phoned, also contact Corps Officer and ensure that an Incident Report is prepared.
  • Contact 911 in the event of a medical emergency. Notify Corps Officer and complete appropriate paperwork
  • Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army and comply with all policies and procedures of The Salvation Army including those applying to Protect the Mission standards.
  • Other duties related to the Resource/Warming Center, seasonal activities and other tasks assigned by Corps Officer.

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
