Job Description

This Volunteer Placement is Located in: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Start Date: September 2026

Placement Length: 5 months

Language Requirements: English Level 4-Advanced

Eligibility: Open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada only

The Volunteer’s Role

Cuso International is seeking a dynamic professional to join the Volunteering Cooperation Program in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In this role, you will partner with Tanzania Women in Mining and Mineral Industry (TWiMMI) to strengthen their capacity to design sustainable programs, secure funding, and build strategic partnerships. Your work will directly support women engaged in mining and mineral value addition, helping expand economic opportunities and long-term independence.

Through the SHARE Project, you will contribute to building a resilient organization that can grow its impact while reducing reliance on donor funding.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities from donors, foundations, development agencies, and private sector partners
  • Design innovative, sustainable programs aligned with organizational priorities
  • Conduct research and gather data to support evidence-based programming and advocacy
  • Develop policy briefs and advocacy materials focused on women in mining
  • Facilitate training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and business development
  • Strengthen internal systems, governance structures, and operational processes
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Support documentation, knowledge transfer, and staff capacity development

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Business Administration, Project Management, International Development, Economics, Social Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Mining-related studies, or a related field

Essential Background:

  • Proven experience in resource mobilization, fundraising, and donor engagement
  • Strong background in program design, proposal development, and project management
  • Excellent grant writing and donor reporting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with government, private sector, donors, and civil society
  • Experience supporting capacity building and organizational development is an asset

Volunteer Support and Requirements

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct
