Job Description

There’s never been a better time to be in energy. And there’s never been a more exciting time to be at Endeavour Energy.

More than 2.7 million people across New South Wales rely on us every day for the supply of safe and reliable power to their homes and businesses. We employ more than 1,700 people across our catchment, making us one of the largest employers in Sydney’s Greater West.

We need talented people who care about one another and the work they do. Why? Because we’re one of Australia's fastest growing networks, connecting 20,000 new customers each year, including the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. And when we power together, we go further, faster; towards a smarter, more sustainable future for us all.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join Endeavour Energy’s Reliability & Resilience team, supporting critical initiatives that strengthen the network against climate, weather and operational risks.

This role is responsible for delivering advanced data analytics and decision support, enabling data-driven resilience strategies, investment planning, and regulatory outcomes. You will work with large-scale, complex datasets to assess climate and operational risks, develop defensible risk/benefit models, and translate insights into actionable recommendations that improve network performance and customer outcomes.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver advanced analytics, data querying, modelling and visualisation to identify trends, emerging risks and improvement opportunities across resilience, reliability and bushfire programs.
  • Develop and maintain analytical models, datasets and tools to support resilience planning, risk assessments, investment prioritisation and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide high-quality quantitative analysis to support strategic resilience initiatives and climate impact assessments.
  • Translate complex climate, asset, operational and customer data into practical insights that inform network improvements and resilience programs.
  • Support the integration of reliability and resilience insights into asset management, engineering design, network planning and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to improve data quality, enhance modelling approaches and ensure robust analytical outputs suitable for governance and investment decisions.

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for a data-driven professional with strong technical capability and a strategic mindset:

  • Significant experience in data science, analytics, modelling or quantitative analysis, ideally within energy, utilities, infrastructure or a related sector.
  • Strong capability in data querying, transformation and analysis using tools such as:
  • Azure Databricks
  • Azure Synapse
  • PySpark/Python, SQL, R
  • FME
  • PowerBI
  • Experience applying AI / machine learning techniques to complex datasets (desirable).
  • Proven experience in hazard/risk analysis, scenario, or similar modelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop robust models and translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Experience supporting business cases, investment planning, regulatory submissions, or strategic planning through quantitative analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver or support integration of developed models through established ETL pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of network reliability, resilience, or bushfire risk concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate effectively in an environment with uncertainty, changing priorities and incomplete information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.

Applications close - 1 July 2026.

About Endeavour Energy (NSW)

Endeavour Energy is a safety focused and customer-centred business determined to be the best performing network in Australia.

Our people take great pride in being of service to our communities by efficiently distributing electricity to our customers in a way that is safe, reliable and sustainable.

We manage a $6.2 billion electricity distribution network serving more than a million connected customers, or 2.4 million people, living and working across 24,800 square kilometres in Sydney’s Greater West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands, Illawarra and the South Coast of NSW.

Our network powers Australia’s third largest economy, and includes Sydney’s North West and South West Priority Growth Centres, established in 2005 to house 500,000 new residents over 30 years in suburbs similar in size to Wollongong and Canberra.

The region is also home to Sydney’s proposed second airport.

We’re owned by an Australian-led consortium of institutional investors with world class experience in investing and managing regulated utilities across the globe.

The consortium has a clear objective to create long-term value by efficiently investing in Endeavour Energy’s assets to improve safety and customer outcomes.

The consortium acquired 50.4% ownership of the rights to manage Endeavour Energy’s network assets under a 99 year lease in June 2017. It’s led by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA), and includes AMP Capital, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and Qatar Investment Authority.

The NSW Government retains a 49.6% interest and continues to licence safety and reliability.
