Role Overview:
MPI has an immediate opportunity for a process-focused Director of Residuals to lead residual operations for the Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans, including residual processing, allocations, reporting, audits, collections, and related analysis.
This role oversees the Residuals team and is responsible for strengthening workflows, controls, documentation, reporting practices, and follow-up processes to support accurate, timely, and well-controlled residual activity. The Director will also guide implementation of a new residuals system, support future system enhancements, and develop clear reporting and analysis for executive leadership, the Audit & Collections Committee, and the Board.
The ideal candidate brings strong entertainment industry residuals knowledge, demonstrated leadership experience, strong people management, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex residuals matters into clear, practical information for internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Need:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in finance, accounting, business administration, entertainment / media, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of related industry experience, preferably with significant experience in residuals.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to manage, coach, develop, and hold staff accountable.
- Understanding of Guild Collective Bargaining Agreements, residual reporting requirements, compliance obligations, and related operational processes.
- Strong expertise in contract interpretation, with experience residual calculations and audits a plus.
- Experience supporting or leading system implementations, conversions, upgrades, workflow redesigns, automation initiatives, reporting enhancements, or post-implementation stabilization.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate processes, strengthen controls, develop procedures, improve workflows, and support consistent, well-documented operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and the ability to identify risks, evaluate options, and escalate appropriately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics effectively to executive leadership, Board members, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage complex operational matters and provide strategic, executive-facing guidance.
- Collaborative leadership style with a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships, mentor staff, and foster an accountable, service-oriented team culture.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment with a high degree of accuracy, organization, and follow through.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications; experience with residuals, payroll, production accounting, ERP, workflow, reporting, and/or document management systems is a plus.

What You’ll Do
Residuals Operations & Reporting
- Oversee residual operations from contribution allocation through processing, reporting, collection, aging analysis, and auditing.
- Ensure residual contribution allocations between Plan entities are accurate and timely, consistent with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and actuarial projection funding requirements.
- Analyze agreements and contracts to support accurate residual calculations, compliance, and reporting treatment.
- Coordinate residual audits of studios, streamers, and distribution companies with the third-party audit firm, including audit announcements, planning, status tracking, and follow up.
- Proactively lead discussions with the third-party audit firm and applicable studios, streamers, and distribution companies to resolve findings, collect amounts due, and confirm appropriate calculations for future reporting.
- Oversee recurring residuals reporting, including monthly audit receivables and aging reports, residual funding reports, periodic statistical reports, and other reporting needed to support operations, financial oversight, and decision-making.
- Analyze residuals collections, audit receivables, aging, variances, trends, and issues to identify risks, drive follow-up, support timely resolution, and improve collection outcomes.
- Provide residuals-related financial reporting and analytics to support Accounting, actuarial projections, collective bargaining negotiations, forecasting, and other financial planning or oversight needs.
- Translate residuals data into clear, actionable summaries and presentations for executive leadership, the Audit & Collections Committee, and the Board, highlighting collections activity, audit status, aging trends, financial impact, key risks, unresolved issues, and recommended next steps.
Process Improvement, Controls & Systems
- Guide the implementation of the new residuals system and lead related process improvement initiatives, including requirements gathering, workflow design, testing, data validation, user acceptance, training, user adoption, post-implementation stabilization, and future enhancements.
- Lead the development of a structured tracking and follow-up process for High-Budget SVOD residuals, using available contract, production, reporting, and other information to better anticipate expected reporting and collections, escalate issues, and support timely collections.
- Evaluate existing residuals processes and lead initiatives to simplify, standardize, document, and strengthen recurring workflows, controls, and reporting practices.
- Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, or improve residuals processing, exception tracking, reconciliations, reporting, and management oversight.
- Develop and maintain policies, desktop procedures, tracking tools, and reporting resources that support consistent operations, accountability, controls, and knowledge transfer.
- Partner with IT and business stakeholders to ensure residuals systems, reports, workflows, and data structures support operational needs, controls, and reporting for management, the Audit & Collections Committee, and the Board.
Stakeholder Communication & Issue Resolution
- Serve as a senior residuals resource for executive leadership, Board members, internal colleagues, employers, unions, payroll companies, studios, legal counsel, and other external parties.
- Communicate complex residuals matters clearly and professionally, including operational status, risks, exceptions, recommended actions, and potential impacts.
- Exercise sound judgment in identifying sensitive or high-risk issues and escalating matters appropriately.
- Build productive working relationships across departments and with external stakeholders while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the Residuals team, including workload planning, performance feedback, training, professional development, and performance management.
- Set clear expectations, establish priorities, monitor progress, and hold staff accountable for accuracy, timeliness, responsiveness, judgement, and follow-through.
- Develop and use team performance metrics, reporting, and other management tools to evaluate workload, productivity, service levels, quality, and opportunities for improvement.
- Strengthen team capability and continuity through clear procedures, cross-training, delegation, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful succession planning.

Compensation
The anticipated base salary for this position is $140,000 - $170,000 annually. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.
