Position Purpose summary:
In compliance with the Mission Statement of The Salvation ArmyHamiltonBooth Centre, to minister to those in need and other persons affected by homelessness by practicalassistancethrough a demonstration of Christian love and concern. Under the direction of the ProgramManager, the Residential Worker will provide a service to residents/clients by ensuring their safety while interacting in a positive, supportive manner, make referrals to other day staff as appropriate and to protect the property of The Salvation Army Booth Centre.
This is a reliefposition with noguaranteed hours Flexibility in scheduling isrequiredThe work schedule isdeterminedin consultation with your supervisor andmay vary according to requirements of responsibility.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Service Responsibilities
Conduct initial screening of client seeking admission ensuring individualbehaviouris of acceptable standard per Policy and Procedure manual
Fully complete intake with clients, assignbed,and provide hygiene products , and connect them with a Case Worker
Complete hourly security rounds of Main floor, Dining Hall,Kitchenand Dorms. Checking washrooms, stairwells, fireexitsand doors.
Complete security rounds of exterior of the Centre, checking the parking compound, exterior fire escape hourly.
Record activities and incidents occurring duringshiftin a factual and concise manner usingLog Bookand/or Incident Book.
Answer telephone and provide inquirer with necessary direction.
Maintain cleanliness of Front Desk area inside and out, including the area where the food is stored.
Contact emergency service personnel (ambulance and police) when needed.
Complete incident reports, statistics/shift reportsbefore completingshift
Maintain confidentiality with regard to clients/staff and Centre’s records.
Work closely with and carry out tasks assigned to you by your supervisor.
Whennecessary,call in relief workers according to procedures usingon-call list
Bed checks and curfew to be done according to approved procedures (nights)
Fully participate in our Harm Reduction program including but not limited to: providing safe supply, building kits, education and client centered supports.

Meet withProgramManagerfor supervision as scheduled
Engage in formal evaluation sessions with the ProgramManageratsix and twelve months in the first year and annually thereafter.
Modelappropriate qualitiesfor this position –i.e.,self-motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene
Commit to and sign the agency and clients’ confidentiality form
Attend staff meetingsofThe Salvation Army Booth Centre Hamilton, Staff Training workshops and conferences, as authorized by the Centre
Work withinmandateand mission of the Salvation Army
Represent The Salvation Army Booth Centre in a professional manner.
Perform other duties asrequired
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May work with potentially aggressive clients.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Post-Secondary Education preferred and/or a combination of education and related life experience.
Possess current WHMIS, FirstAidand CPR certificates along with Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
Competent on computer equipment such as Windows, Microsoft Office, HIFIS etc.
Demonstrates knowledge of Community-based resources.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
Excellent oral and writtencommunicationsskills and effective interpersonal skills
Ability toestablishand implement goals and plans for self and clients.
Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgement.
Ability to work with socially disadvantaged people who may often harbor resentment and anger
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
Ability to lift/carry up to forty pounds.
Abilityto undergo applicablescreening and background checks successfullythat are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion(i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) andprovide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sectorscreening.
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $20.93 to $20.93 with a maximum of $20.93.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
