About the Organisation

Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is a kaupapa Māori organisation grounded in a whānau-first, tikanga-based wellbeing approach. Our mahi is guided by our six pou: whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, arohatanga, rangatiratanga, tika and pono. We deliver health and social services across the lifespan and employ over 100 kaimahi working across Kirikiriroa and beyond.

Ngā Whare Tūhono

is a Kaupapa Māori wellbeing home providing residential mental health support for tāne (18 years old and above). Our mahi is grounded in supporting each whanaunga on their pathway to wellbeing, through strengths-based, tikanga-led practice.

About the Role – Support Worker

The Support Worker will provide essential social care and support to whānau within Ngā Whare Tūhono. This role focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of whānau, empowering them to overcome challenges and build independence. The Support Worker will work collaboratively within team lead to deliver holistic, culturally grounded care in alignment with the kaupapa of Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa.

Position Details

  • Residential Support Worker - Full-time
  • Location: Hillcrest - Hamilton
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts (7.00–7.00), on a 4 days on / 4 days off rotating roster, including weekends

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver culturally responsive, whānau-centred social support
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with individuals and their whānau
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop tailored care plans
  • Advocate for whānau and work with external agencies for coordinated care
  • Maintain accurate case notes and ensure compliance with reporting standards
  • Promote independence by guiding whānau toward resources and opportunities

We are seeking kaimahi who

  • Embraces a whānau-first, tikanga-based wellbeing approach.
  • Holds a relevant qualification in social support, social work, or community services.
  • Has experience working with whānau in areas such as mental health, addiction, family violence, or general social care.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Has a full driver’s licence and proof of the right to work in New Zealand for at least one year.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years in support work or a similar field
  • Full NZ drivers' licence
  • NZ work rights for at least 12 months
