Purpose/Objective:

To provide professional support to individuals on conditional release from Federal/Provincial Institutions. To perform a full range of duties and responsibilities to the assistance, care and case management of residents including, intake, assessment, ongoing tracking, logging and essential communications to Community Residential Facility team and Parole Office.

  • Ensure that all residents comply with the conditions of their parole and the rules and regulations of CJS Greenfield House.
  • Supervision of residents and CJS Greenfield House (must be awake and alert at all times while on duty).
  • Assist residents with their gradual and successful community reintegration.
  • Fulfill all related job requirements as per Corrections Canada “Statement of Work” and The Salvation Army accreditations standards.

The CRF must specify the qualifications required to staff to perform the respective duties and responsibilities of each position. The requirements for the selection of supervisors, case workers, outreach workers or similar positions must include:

The ability to understand the dynamics of offender behaviour and assess their needs and risks. The skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships and gain trust. The skills to understand the use of authority and to intervene effectively in crisis situations. The ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community. The ability to assist offenders in identifying and obtaining the community services required for their successful reintegration. Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; and The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity.

Qualifications:

  • Correctional Techniques Certificate and/or equivalent training and experience.
  • Computer literate.
  • Bilingual or willing to participate in further education in second language.
  • Clearly and accurately communicate factual information/data and maintain records with legible penmanship.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and take initiative to perform other routine duties while on shift.
  • Visual/sensory requirements: focus on detail, objects and people when carrying out work activities; keen sense of observation.
  • Mental requirements: use specialized training where conditions may cause anxiety, tension, some form of mental/emotional discomfort, verbal aggression and/or physical violence.
  • Handle stress and able to communicate with supervisor if you feel the need to debrief or need assistance with stress management.
  • Ability to pass “Reliability Status” level of clearance as per CSC directive.

Characteristic Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the residents and oversee CJS Greenfield House.
  • Panic button “must” be worn at all times by support workers on duty.
  • All staff members must be dressed appropriately at all times.
  • Utilize “Mandatory Check List” shift requirement on a daily basis.
  • Effectively intervene in a crisis situation and exercise good judgment.
  • Show interpersonal listening skills, sensitivity to and understanding of other’s feelings.
  • Control accesses to CJS Greenfield House by ensuring doors are locked, unlocked and alarmed at appropriate times.
  • Knowledge of precautionary measures to be adhered to working with individuals with communicable diseases.
  • Supervisory ability while working with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions without constant supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintain a running log of all occurrences, routine and discrete, and report all unusual situations/incidences.
  • Make required rounds of CJS Greenfield House and document results.
  • Ensure all files and records are up to date.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of clients and/or property, including contacts with police.
  • Ensure cleanliness of CJS Greenfield House at all times.
  • Inform Residential Coordinator of any required maintenance / repairs and report all unusual situations and incidences to the Residential Coordinator.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of trust and respect while exercising control in the residence.
  • Staff must adhere to The Salvation Army Computer Access, Code of Conduct, Workplace Violence, Territorial Abuse, Whistleblower, and Respect in the Workplace Policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Write and submit professional, factual and detailed reports in timeline sequence of events and within deadline parameters.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Mandatory attendance at all staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility at all times.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the house where applicable.
  • Practices all safety and sanitation rules and regulations and observe personal hygiene.
  • Develops and maintains good interpersonal and communication skills and utilizes these skills in work with residents, visitors and other staff.
  • Maintains resident confidentiality and respects the residents’ right to privacy.
  • Ability to remain neutral and non-opinionated on individual personal, political, spiritual or cultural based belief systems.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of current facility policies and procedures as stated in Correctional & Justice Services program manual, The Salvation Army “Communicable Disease Control,” “Emergency Services Disaster” and working knowledge of “Fire & Safety.”

Time and Place:

  • Location of work – CJS Greenfield House, 64 Gordon Street, Moncton N.B.
  • The work schedule will be prepared in advance whenever possible. Working hours will be determined based on the requirements on a week-to-week basis. Variations to this aspect of the job will be determined by the Executive Director.

Related and allied duties will be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the facility.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.30 to $22.87 with a maximum of $27.44.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
