Residential Support Worker

Salary: £28,100 per annum plus £50 per sleep in

Location: Mumbles, Swansea

Contract/Hours: Permanent, Part-time – 35 hours per week

About the Service

Ty Laura is a vibrant, nurturing respite service supporting children and young people with additional learning and health needs.

We provide overnight stays for up to four young people, offering families meaningful respite, while creating positive experiences that benefit the whole community.

Ty Laura is a “bustling hive of activity” where every day is different and every achievement matters, from shared celebrations to milestones like a young person proudly tying their shoelaces for the first time.

With five uniquely designed bedrooms and a warm, home‑from‑home environment, Ty Laura helps young people feel safe, settled, and supported to grow in confidence.

About the role

As a shift leading Residential Support Worker, you’ll take the lead during shifts, guiding colleagues in delivering high‑quality care, whilst maintaining a calm, consistent environment where children and young people feel secure and included.

You’ll support routines, promote independence and ensure each shift runs smoothly.

This role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who enjoys working directly with young people, values teamwork, and is ready to take on greater responsibility within a positive and collaborative service

  • Lead shifts with confidence, ensuring routines run smoothly

  • Support routines, personal care, emotional wellbeing and consistent boundaries for young people.

  • Lead meaningful in‑house and community‑based activities that promote confidence, independence and fun.

  • Offer stability, encouragement and positive role‑modelling through everyday interactions.

  • Ensure safeguarding, risk awareness and calm, supportive responses to challenges.

  • Complete essential tasks, communicating effectively with colleagues and contributing to a well‑run, consistent home.

Let's talk about you

  • Confidence leading shifts and supporting colleagues in children’s residential care

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust

  • Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families

  • Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting

  • Registration with Social Care Wales, or if not supported by us to complete

  • Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.
