Residential Practitioner (Non-Qualified) – Children’s Home

Location: Oldham, OL3
Salary: £34,944 (inclusive of sleeps)
Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week (2 on, 4 off rota)
Sleep-ins: Typically 11 per month (£52 per sleep)
Employment Type: Permanent
Service: Ofsted-regulated solo children’s home (Therapeutic – DDP & PACE led)
Service Users: Solo placement supporting a young person with complex needs
Qualifications Required: Not required on entry | Must be willing to work towards a relevant qualification
Experience Required: Experience supporting children or young people in care, education, or support settings

Salary Breakdown

Hourly Rate: £13.00
Base Salary (40 hours): £27,040
Sleep-in Allowance: £6,864 (11 per month at £52)
Total Package: £33,904

A Different Kind of Role

Children’s residential care is not straightforward — but it is meaningful.

You will be supporting a young person who may have experienced trauma, disruption, and instability. The role requires patience, resilience, consistency, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. In return, it offers the opportunity to build genuine relationships and make a lasting difference.

The Setting

Our client is opening a new solo children’s home in Saddleworth (Oldham, OL3)

This is a from-day-one opportunity to join a small, consistent team supporting one young person.

The home is designed as a therapeutic service, led by:

• DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy) principles

• PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) approach

The solo placement model allows for:

• Focused, 1:1 support

• A calm and structured environment

• Reduced group dynamics

• Consistent, relationship-led care

The Role

As a Residential Practitioner, you will:

• Support the young person in day-to-day routines and activities

• Help create a safe, stable, and structured home environment

• Promote independence and positive behaviours

• Respond to emotional and behavioural needs in a calm and consistent way

• Maintain accurate records and contribute to care planning

• Follow safeguarding procedures and professional standards at all times

You will work closely with your team to ensure the home provides safe, consistent, and high-quality care.

Clinical Support for Staff

This service places a clear focus on staff wellbeing and reflective practice.

You will have access to:

• A dedicated adult psychotherapist

• Fortnightly sessions for the staff team

• A safe space for reflection, emotional processing, and development

This approach is designed to support resilience and maintain high standards of care.

• You only hold a Level 3 in Health & Social Care (not considered equivalent)

• You have only worked in Healthcare, NHS, CQC, or Nursery settings

• You have no experience in an Ofsted-regulated children’s home
