Job Description

Title: Residential Support Assistant
Location: Puxico, MO

Schedule: Onsite; Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM; 32 hours per week

We are seeking an experienced Residential Support Assistant to support the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service at the Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center (JCCC) in Puxico, Missouri. Your scope of work will focus on helping students develop the social, behavioral, daily-living, and employability skills needed to succeed at the Center and in the workplace.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support
  • Assist students in understanding the importance of positive social skills
  • Promote the development of positive social and employability skills
  • Model appropriate behavior for students
  • Use positive intervention to teach appropriate workplace behaviors
  • Answer student questions and provide information, guidance, and counsel
  • Provide leadership and direction to students during assigned daily activities
Behavior Management
  • Participate in the Center Behavioral Management System and Student Code of Conduct
  • Observe and report social, behavioral, and disciplinary concerns to the appropriate supervisor
  • Maintain order and recognize social, behavioral, or disciplinary problems
  • Promote harmony among students and obtain assistance for complicated problems
  • Positively intervene when students require assistance correcting inappropriate behavior
  • Support proper workplace and community conduct, appearance, and behavior
Daily Activities
  • Provide leadership and direction during daily housekeeping duties
  • Assign individual duties by establishing rotating student work rosters
  • Ensure students adhere to assigned tasks
  • Provide direction during work details, physical training, recreation, and hygiene activities
  • Help students develop appropriate skills and behaviors for workplace success
Safety
  • Ensure student compliance with safety rules and regulations in living and working environments
  • Observe student activities and report identified safety concerns
  • Follow applicable Job Corps and Center safety requirements
Records & Systems
  • Use Job Corps-related databases and software to perform and process work assignments
  • Maintain daily logs and other required records accurately
  • Protect student information in accordance with applicable privacy, confidentiality, and information-security requirements
Transportation
  • Operate Government vehicles when authorized to transport students
  • Complete required Government vehicle training
  • Follow applicable Government vehicle and student-transportation procedures

REQUIRED BACKGROUND
  • General knowledge of the basic rules, regulations, and practices of the Job Corps Center program
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Experience and technical knowledge necessary to perform the position’s duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and provide information, guidance, inspections, and counsel
  • Ability to maintain order and recognize social, behavioral, or disciplinary concerns
  • Ability to promote harmony among students and obtain assistance for complicated problems
  • Ability to model appropriate behavior and teach positive social and employability skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate required logs and records
  • Ability to meet the requirements for operating Government vehicles
  • Ability to meet the physical demands established for the position

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Undergraduate degree preferred

  • Puxico, MO 63960

TRAVEL
  • Travel may be required

WORK HOURS
  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday
  • 3:00 PM–11:30 PM
  • 32 hours per week

TELEWORK
  • Telework is not authorized

CLEARANCE
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have an Alien Registration authorizing employment in the United States
  • Must successfully complete the required background-investigation process
  • Must meet applicable USDA personnel-security requirements
  • Must not appear on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General exclusionary list

Other Considerations. Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
