Residential Route (Garbage Truck Helper) – Waste Pro – Pembroke Pines, FL

Earn Up to $20 / per hour based on qualifications

Supports the driver in the collection of residential waste, yard waste, and recycling by safely loading the materials into the truck, returning containers, maintaining route efficiency, and following all safety procedures while providing excellent customer service.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Ride on the rear or side of a residential garbage truck and assist the driver with daily collection routes.
  • Collect residential garbage, recycling and yard waste from designated locations.
  • Lift, empty, and return refuse and recycling containers to the curb in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Lifts and carry trash bags, bulk items and containers to the truck for disposal.
  • Operates packing mechanism to compact waste into the truck.
  • Provides a safe and Distinguishably Different level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service in all aspects of refuse operation to the public and customers.
  • Direct the driver when backing up or maneuvering the vehicle in tight or congested areas.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude towards company, customer and municipal goals.
  • Answers questions for residents and directs them to contact Customer Service or appropriate government office for additional information.
  • Comply with all company policies including Waste Pro Absolute Guidelines, Department of Transportation (DOT), and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
  • Assist with cleaning the truck and maintaining equipment during and at the end of each shift.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged containers, route issues, or customer service-related issues to the driver and supervisor, immediately.
  • Performs a variety of manual duties in the clean-up of scattered refuse; Cleans up the area around accidental waste spills and ensures customers containers are replaced properly.
  • Assists other routes as needed to complete schedules.

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Employees in this job classification must attend and participate in corporation sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate.
  • May be required to work during emergency situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work early morning shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.

  • Physically able to push or pull independently (unassisted) 50 pounds between 800 and 1000 times a day
  • Physically able to lift independently (unassisted) 50 pounds from the ground to waist height between 800 and 1000 times a day
  • Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 800 and 1000 times a day
  • Physically able to bend at the waist and knees between 800 and 1000 times a day
  • Physically able to work 8 to 12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain and snow)
  • Ability to ride on the outside of the truck while servicing residential customers in low MPH areas.
