Job Description

Resource Innovations is seeking a Residential Outreach Specialist to join our growing team in the San Diego Area. The Residential Outreach Specialist is responsible for promoting and supporting enrollment in the Energy Savings Assistance Program, an income-qualified energy conservation program. The program provides participating households with personalized energy education and the installation of eligible energy-saving measures.

This field-based position engages directly with customers, determines household and property eligibility, explains program benefits, collects required enrollment documentation, and installs basic energy- and water-saving measures.

Resource Innovations (RI) is a women-led energy transformation firm focused on impact. Building on our expertise in energy efficiency, we continue to expand our portfolio of clean energy solutions to help utilities address increasingly complex and interconnected challenges—including load flexibility, electrification, and carbon reduction. With every step, we’re leading the charge to power change.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct outreach to eligible households through door-to-door canvassing, customer lead lists, referrals, prior customer recommendations, census tract information, and other approved sources.
  • Meet with utility customers to explain the Energy Savings Assistance Program and communicate the benefits of participation.
  • Explain household income requirements and residential property eligibility criteria.
  • Describe available energy-conservation measures, their anticipated benefits, and the timing of each phase of the program.
  • Provide energy-conservation education and practical cost-saving recommendations to help customers establish energy-saving goals.
  • Evaluate and document household income eligibility and the structural eligibility of each residence.
  • Complete enrollment paperwork and obtain all required documentation from eligible households.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and legible customer records using required program forms and data-collection systems.
  • Install eligible basic energy- and water-saving measures, which may include:
  • Maintain professional and respectful interactions with customers while working in and around their homes.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and conduct work in a manner that protects the health and safety of employees, customers, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of professional work experience preferably in sales, customer service, community outreach, education, or a related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain active Home Improvement Salesperson registration through the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB).
  • Valid California driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, with the minimum required level of automobile insurance, for regular travel throughout the assigned service area.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to explain program requirements and energy-conservation concepts clearly to customers from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to accurately complete forms, collect documentation, and maintain confidential customer information.
  • Ability to work independently, manage appointments, and meet established outreach and enrollment goals.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in residential and field environments.
  • Regular local travel and door-to-door canvassing are required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use basic hand tools while installing eligible energy- and water-saving measures.
  • Ability to safely carry outreach materials and installation equipment.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on customer and program needs
