The Residential/Rear Load Driver operates refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to collect garbage, recycling, and yard waste. This role also supervises helpers on the route, ensures proper safety procedures are followed, and completes required inspections and documentation.
Work is performed under supervision and evaluated through route observations, safety compliance, and operational performance.
Safe Route Operations
Safely operate refuse trucks on established residential routes following Decision Driving principles.
Collect and transport garbage, recycling, and yard waste within assigned service areas.
Dispose of collected waste at landfills, transfer stations, or designated facilities.
Customer Service Excellence
Deliver Waste Pro’s Distinguishably Different level of service.
Maintain a positive and professional attitude with customers and the public.
Collection & Compliance
Ensure proper pickup and transfer of residential garbage and recyclables.
Tag and report improper containers or non-compliant waste.
Vehicle Inspections & Maintenance
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and Waste Pro procedures.
Complete DVIR and Safety Lane documentation daily.
Inspect under hood, undercarriage, tires, and fluid levels.
Truck Cleanliness & Upkeep
Maintain a clean vehicle and wash truck exterior weekly.
Route Responsibilities
Safely operate truck hydraulics to move and empty containers.
Clean up scattered refuse as needed.
Ensure the safety of all personnel working on the vehicle.
Documentation
Prepare and submit all required company and regulatory reports.
Regulatory Compliance
Follow all Department of Transportation and state regulations for commercial vehicle operators.
Emergency Response
May be required to work during emergency situations when community services are critical.
Participate in company-sponsored training programs.
Stay up to date with Waste Pro technology and safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
This role operates outdoors in varying conditions including:
Heat, cold, rain, wind, and seasonal weather
Exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, odors, and fumes
Physically active work including lifting and manual clean-up when necessary

Qualifications
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works in a variety of environment conditions, including wide temperature and weather variations including heat, cold, snow, rain, wind; noise and vibrations, fumes, odors and dust.

1. Physically able to push or pull independently (unassisted) 50 pounds between 800 and 1000 times a day
2. Physically able to lift independently (unassisted) 50 pounds from the ground to waist height between 800 and 1000 times a day
3. Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 800 and 1000 times a day
4. Physically able to bend at the waist and knees between 800 and 1000 times a day
5. Physically able to work 8 to 12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain and snow)
