Position: Residential Direct Support Professional



Block Institute is seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to provide care, support, and services for adults with developmental disabilities in a group home setting. As a Direct Support Professional, you will offer hands-on guidance in all activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, hygiene, grooming, banking, feeding, shopping, and accessing the community.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional include, but are not limited to:

  • Read and write simple sentences to comprehend and document in communication logs, monthly reports, medical reports, memos, etc.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to pass, and maintain certification in AMAP (medication administration), CPR, and SCIP-R.
  • Must have a clean, valid driver’s license.
  • Interact appropriately and follow all regulatory items concerning the Individuals we serve.
  • Correctly follow goal/outcome methodologies to teach daily living skills to the Individuals we serve.
  • Attend to all necessary daily needs of the Individuals we serve, including personal hygiene, medical concerns, socialization needs, cognitive skills training, and some limited financial transactions.
  • Follow the chain of command when there is a question or concern that needs to be shared with Management.
  • Attend staff meetings each week. For those who do not have scheduled work shifts at staff meeting days and times, they must attend the last staff meeting of the month regardless of schedules.
  • Work weekend days and holidays as required by their schedule and/or Management assignment.
  • May not leave the residence until their replacement for the next shift has arrived. Leaving shift without ensuring that the staffing level required to protect the health and safety of the individuals we serve may result in immediate termination.
  • During Overnight Awake shifts, remain onsite at all times due to reduced staffing patterns and increased vulnerability of the Individuals.
  • If assigned as a 1:1 or Line of Sight, ensure another employee formally takes over these duties during meal breaks.
  • No employee may sleep at any time at any worksite, even during unpaid meal breaks.
  • Work to keep the living environment of the Individuals we serve clean and home-like.
  • Attend meetings and appointments related to the Individuals we serve, provide and receive accurate information, and communicate this information to all necessary parties.
  • Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, demonstrating compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements.
  • Learn and master the use of all software systems and technology utilized by the Agency, on a Program by Program basis.
