MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Residential Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks and are responsible for the collection of residential household waste or recyclable material. Driver will transport the material to a disposal, transferor recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Driver safely maneuvers vehicles in residential environments. Navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots.

Operates collection vehicle in accordance with Polk County Rules, OSHA (OccupationalandSafetyHealthAct)andDOT(DepartmentofTransportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
MayoperateHeavyEquipmentsuchasfront-endloader,roll-off,haultruck,watertruck, roller, and forklift.
Performspre-andpost-tripinspectionsofassignedvehicleanddocumentschecks utilizing the standard VCR (Vehicle Condition Report).
Operateheavy-dutytruckandcollectresidentialhouseholdwasteand/or recyclable material.
Immediatelyreportsallunsafesituationsorservice-relatedissuestoWaste& Recycling Shop Supervisor.
Attendsandparticipatesinallscheduledtrainingprograms,briefings,and meetings as required and/or directed by Management.
WorkscloselywithDataAnalysttoimproverouteefficienciesandidentifybest practices.
NotifiesManagementof anyincidents,accidents,injures,orproperty damage.
Notifies Management of service interruptions including closed or impassable streetsoralleyways,receptaclestooheavytoserviceorpotentialsafetyhazards.
Communicatescustomer requeststoCustomerServiceandtheData Analyst.
Completelycollectsallreceptaclesandleavesthecustomer'slocationcleanand free of debris/litter.
Followsrouteassignmentsasdirectedandcompletesendofdaydocumentation and check out process.
Lead team members to assist with the collection of residential household waste and/orrecyclablematerial.Maintain&supportteaminitiativesthrougheffective leadership.
PerformsalldutiesasscheduledbyManagementandassistingotherdriversas directed to meet customer needs.
Operatesrequiredtechnologyforreportingof“impropersetout”,“Bulk”,“Yard Waste”, “Cart Repair/Replace”, or other GPS and Routing feature(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Mustholda valid CDL A or BCommercialFloridaDriver’s Licensewithan air-brake endorsement at the time of employment.
5 years’ experiencein Residential CurbsideWasteCollection (ASL or REL).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have and maintain a home telephone or immediate access to communication to and fromworkplace at time of employment.
10 years’ experience in residential curbside collection, to include adherence landfill and transfer station policies and procedures.
SPECIAL PREFERENCES
This position shall be required to report for work as directed when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.

Overview
As outlined in the Polk County Charter, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) is the governing body of Polk County. Each commissioner is elected by a countywide vote.
Duties and Powers
The County Commission adopts an annual budget which includes appropriations for services provided by county government including the Sheriff, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections. This budget also includes appropriations in support of the Circuit and County Courts, State Attorney, Public Defender and Clerk of the Court. Some other responsibilities:

* provide and maintain county buildings,
* provide fire protection and ambulance services,
* provide health and welfare programs,
* provide parks, preserves, playgrounds, libraries, museums, historical sites, recreation and cultural facilities and programs,
* prepare and enforce comprehensive plans for the development in the county,
* establish, coordinate, and enforce zoning and such business regulations as are necessary for the protection of the public,
* adopt and enforce building, housing and related technical codes and regulations,
* establish and administer programs of housing, slum clearance, community redevelopment, conservation, flood control, air pollution control,
* provide and regulate waste and sewage collection and disposal, water supply and conservation programs,
* provide and operate public transportation systems, roads, bridges and related facilities.
