Support the apprentice. Assess the standard. Help residential childcare practice grow stronger.
Residential childcare is skilled, demanding and deeply important work.
Apprentices need to understand more than the standard. They need to develop professional judgement, safe practice, confidence and the ability to reflect on the care they provide for children and young people.
As our Residential Childcare Trainer Assessor, you’ll help them build that practice.
You’ll deliver group learning and carry out workplace assessments for apprentices working towards Residential Childcare standards at Level 4 and Level 5. You’ll complete progress reviews, set SMART targets, support Functional Skills and help apprentices build the evidence they need to progress.
You’ll also work with employer partners and awarding bodies to support and develop the college’s offer, while contributing to IQA activity within the existing team.
This is a role for someone with strong occupational experience in residential childcare and confidence in workplace assessment. You’ll understand the standards, responsibilities and professional behaviours expected in the sector, and you’ll be able to support apprentices to apply those expectations in real working environments.
What you'll do
- Deliver Residential Childcare apprenticeship standards at Level 4 and Level 5.
- Carry out workplace assessments with apprentices.
- Deliver group learning and support apprentice development.
- Complete progress reviews and set SMART targets.
- Support Functional Skills where required.
- Use an electronic portfolio system to monitor evidence and progress.
- Work with employers to support apprentice achievement.
- Develop the college’s offer with employer partners and awarding bodies.
- Contribute to IQA, standardisation and quality activity.
- Support apprentices to prepare for gateway, assessment and progression.
What you'll bring
- At least two years’ occupational experience in residential childcare at the relevant level.
- A relevant residential childcare or sector-specific qualification.
- A recognised assessment qualification, such as TAQA, A1, V1 or equivalent.
- Confidence carrying out workplace assessment.
- Experience supporting, training, coaching, mentoring or assessing others.
- Good knowledge of Residential Childcare standards at Level 4 and Level 5.
- Strong communication skills with apprentices, employers and colleagues.
- Good organisation and the ability to manage reviews, records and caseload activity.
- Experience using an electronic portfolio system would be helpful.
- Experience of IQA activity would be an advantage.
