Position Overview

The Residential Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining residential security, fire alarm, and related low-voltage systems. This position works directly with homeowners to identify system concerns, complete repairs or installations, and ensure each system operates safely and reliably.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with residential security systems, particularly DMP equipment, as well as familiarity with fire alarm systems such as EST and Fire-Lite. We are looking for someone who combines strong technical skills with professionalism, attention to detail, and a customer-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, service, and troubleshoot residential security and fire alarm systems
  • Diagnose system, device, wiring, programming, and communication issues
  • Program and test control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and related equipment
  • Perform system upgrades, repairs, and equipment replacements
  • Verify completed work meets manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and company quality standards
  • Clearly explain system operation, completed work, and recommended repairs or upgrades to customers
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection documentation, and material usage
  • Coordinate with dispatch, sales, and operations to complete scheduled work efficiently
  • Maintain company-issued tools, equipment, materials, and vehicle
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable regulations
  • Participate in required training and continuing education
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Previous experience installing or servicing residential security, fire alarm, or other low-voltage systems
  • Working knowledge of electrical and low-voltage wiring, system components, and troubleshooting practices
  • Ability to read technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and equipment instructions
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily service assignments
  • Basic computer and mobile-device proficiency
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass applicable pre-employment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DMP security systems
  • Experience with DSD security equipment or systems
  • Experience with EST and Fire-Lite fire alarm systems
  • EST3 or EST4 certification
  • Relevant fire alarm, security, electrical, or low-voltage certifications
  • Experience working directly with residential customers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform hands-on technical work for extended periods
  • Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions
