Job Description

General Description: The Residential Aide is responsible for direct services to residents of the Safe Haven Program, ensuring that daily scheduled activities are carried out, and assists in meeting the basis needs of the residents. The Residential Aide should, in his/her relationship with clients and other staff, model healthy, supportive behavior and good coping skills. The Residential Aide will be required to transport clients to appointments when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a safe, supportive environment in which residents are treated with respect and courtesy in line with trauma informed care;
  • Carrying out specific shift duties as assigned by the House Manager;
  • Monitoring the house for safety utilizing the onsite camera system and walking inspections throughout entire shift.
  • Daily cleaning activities and chores, both inside and outside the house, to ensure all areas of the site are maintained in a sanitary, well-organized, and pleasant condition.
  • Monitoring residents’ behaviors to ensure they are pro-social and abide by the house rules and policies.
  • Assisting the residents in working toward the mastering the skills necessary to live independently;
  • Ensuring that residents have all their basic supplies and needs such as toiletries, laundry detergent, including replenishing and stocking supplies;
  • Providing transportation for residents to appointments, shopping, and other destinations, as necessary;
  • Conducting daily checks of residents’ rooms and the general areas of the home for safety hazards and cleanliness, and offering encouragement, modeling, and training when needed in housekeeping skills;
  • Supervising meal preparation of residents, offering training, modeling, and assistance when needed, while fostering the individual’s development of his or her own skills and confidence;
  • Offering training, assistance, and modeling with daily living skills, to residents (e.g., personal hygiene, nutrition, laundry, use of public transportation, and socialization skills);
  • Providing a “listening” ear for residents and facilitating conflict resolution;
  • Providing emergency intervention in response to crises situations and following protocol to address emergencies to include contacting the Case Manager, Program Director, and/or calling 911 when applicable;
  • Responding appropriately to resident medical emergencies and performing crisis intervention when necessary, including, but not limited to, providing emergency first aid and CPR;
  • Monitoring residents’ administration of medication and recording in the Daily Medication Record according to policy; contacting the Case Manager or Program Director regarding serious medication errors, such as an individual taking the wrong medication, or wrong dosage of medication;
  • Documenting disruptive behavior or incidents involving police and/or emergency personnel on an Incident Report Form and submitting this form to the House Manager;
  • Monitoring and reporting to the House Manager/Case Manager noteworthy information about resident behavior or mental status;
  • Maintaining required documentation of nightly census record and of hourly log notes that document all important and relevant incidences and briefing next staff at shift change;
  • Participating in MCCH recreational activities with residents, as assigned by supervisory staff;
  • Attending mandatory scheduled staff meetings and annual MCCH Staff Retreat;
  • Representing MCCH in a positive and professional manner to resident’s families and outside organizations with whom the Residential Aide comes in contact in person or by telephone;
  • Evaluating and addressing minor household maintenance repairs and tasks.
  • Maintaining a clean staff working environment and replenishing office supplies and forms as needed;
  • Serving as the primary contact person for the house during shift; and
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• High school graduate or GED.

• Minimum one year related experience. Will consider combination of qualifications equal to educational and work experience.

• Ability to write routine reports and documents.

• Ability to solve problems, negotiate and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

• Knowledge and experience in administering CPR and minor first aid.

• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

• Current driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
