Introduction:

The Department of Oncology offers comprehensive cancer care services to all patients. The services are provided through multidisciplinary teams. Infrastructure facilities include a daycare setting dedicated to oncology patients. Outpatient facilities include clinics of Medical, Haematology, Paediatric, Radiation, and Palliative Care. The department has 29 Faculty with a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education and research. Residency programs are offered in Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Clinical Haematology Oncology, and fellowship program in Palliative and Paediatric Oncology.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Resident Medical Officer (Clinical Haematology), Department of Oncology.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • administer cytotoxic chemotherapy and transfuse blood and blood products in accordance with consultant orders and institutional guidelines
  • assess patients before, during, and after chemotherapy administration
  • enter chemotherapy orders and prescribe post-chemotherapy medications
  • perform outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy, paracentesis, bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy, and PICC line removal
  • prepare patients for line insertion and other procedures
  • provide daily follow-up of inpatients and presenting patient histories during ward rounds
  • participate in outpatient clinics and patient management under supervision of an attending physician
  • ensure proper documentation in medical record and record keeping
  • communicate effectively with patients and consultants
  • participate in Journal clubs and continuous medical education
  • work in multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health persons.

Requirements:

You should have:

  • MBBS degree and a valid PMDC license
  • FCPS Part I
  • at least 1 year of house job; post house job clinical experience will be preferred
  • knowledge of basic and clinical sciences
  • demonstrate sensitivity in interaction with patients & community by responding appropriately to their expectations and concerns and gain their confidence
  • demonstrate highest ethical standards of practice
  • ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.
