and Responsibilities:

Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.” In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. As supervisory, incumbent is also expected to actively support and work toward fulfilling the Agency’s Affirmative Action objectives.
Spends majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees; and planning and directing employees’ work, and has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal, purchasing, and property procedures and policies. Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules and assignments.
Assists the Resident Park Manager IV in directing the activities of Paynes Prairie State Preserve. The incumbent of this position exercises independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets. Checks reports, fee collection, and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Meet the public, interpret the resources, facilities, and services, resolves problems, and provide for good public relations. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
Participates in and supervises the resource management program including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control, and exotic removal.
Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment.
Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical, and archaeological facilities and resources, and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. Prepares and implements the Park Protection Plan in accordance with the Operations Policy Manual.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Driver’s License
Live in residency located on park property
Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Far from the Far West, herds of wild horses and bison roam the prairie in this surprisingly diverse preserve south of Gainesville. Paynes Prairie is unique in many ways. Nowhere else in Florida can visitors experience wild-roaming bison and horses. Nearly 300 species of birds also frequent the park along with alligators, deer and many other animals.
The park’s eight trails, including the 16-mile paved Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail, allow one to explore the park’s interior and observe wildlife, while a 50-foot high observation tower provides for panoramic views. Price’s Scrub State Park offers 9.5 miles of multi-use trails through areas of open Scrub as well as shady hammock.
