Job Description

About Sanofi:

We’re an innovation‑driven, AI‑powered biopharmaceutical company committed to improving people’s lives and delivering compelling growth. Our deep understanding of the immune system, combined with an innovative pipeline, enables us to develop medicines and vaccines that transform the lives of millions worldwide. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.

The Sanofi BioCampus in Frankfurt is one of the largest integrated R&D sites within our global organization. As part of our research ecosystem, you will contribute to shaping the future of innovative disease modeling and drug discovery.

About the Job

As a Research Trainee in 3D Bioprinting and Next Generation Disease Models, you will be part of a cutting‑edge research initiative at the intersection of advanced 3D organoid models, bioprinting, immunology, genomics, and high‑throughput screening.

This 24‑month trainee program (1st October 2026 - 30th September 2028) is structured around two research rotations, providing exposure across the drug discovery value chain:

  • Phase 1: Type 1/17 Immunology – Immunology & Inflammation Research
  • Phase 2: IDD In‑vitro Biology

You will work on developing advanced 3D bioprinted models for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), two chronic inflammatory diseases with significant unmet medical need and lack of robust in vitro models.

This program offers a unique opportunity to gain end‑to‑end insight into translational research, from disease biology to scalable drug discovery applications in a highly collaborative environment.

Main Responsibilities

You will be part of a collaboration across research teams, bridging fundamental science and applied development, and contribute to interdisciplinary project milestones.

Phase 1 – Models Development

  • Develop and optimize 3D bioprinted skin and gut models, including testing and refining different bioink formulations and extracellular matrix (ECM) conditions tailored to specific cell types and disease requirements
  • Perform comprehensive molecular and multi‑omics characterization (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics) of the bioprinted models
  • Apply a “lab‑in‑the‑loop” approach to iteratively develop models that accurately recapitulate tissue architecture and disease‑specific pathophysiological processes

Phase 2 – Translational & Screening

  • Adapt and scale models for high‑throughput screening (HTS)
  • Support miniaturization and automation of assay platforms
  • Integrate models into drug discovery workflows

About you

  • MSc or PhD in bioengineering, immunology, stem cell biology, or related fields
  • Hands-on experience with advanced 3D cell culture models and bioprinting technologies is highly desirable
  • Experience with immunological assays and inflammatory disease biology
  • Exposure to omics technologies (transcriptomics and/or proteomics)
  • Familiarity with high‑throughput screening, programing and/or automation workflows
  • Basic knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 technologies is desirable
  • Strong interest in innovative technologies such as 3D bioprinting, advanced disease models, and translational research
  • Motivation to work at the interface of biology, engineering, and drug discovery
  • Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and cross‑functional teams
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit
  • Excellent German and English skills, written and spoken (min. B2 level)

Why Choose Us?

  • Work at the frontier of science — contribute to pioneering research combining bioprinting, immunology, and genomics in a real drug discovery context
  • Structured dual-department rotation — gain unique insight into how basic immunological research translates into applied drug development across the full research value chain
  • Global, diverse environments collaborate with world-class scientists across Sanofi's international research network
  • Accelerate your career — build a rare, highly specialized interdisciplinary skill set that positions you at the cutting edge of biomedical research
  • Meaningful impact — your work directly contributes to improving the lives of patients living with HS and IBD, diseases with significant unmet need
