Job Description

This position is instrumental in advancing the University’s academic and research mission by providing strategic leadership and direction for the design, implementation, and support of research and academic technology services. This role is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing research computing environments, storage solutions, cloud platforms, data ecosystems, and related technical services that enable secure, reliable, and scalable research activities for faculty, staff, and students. The position collaborates closely with researchers, central IT, information security, and administrative stakeholders to ensure that technology services align with institutional goals, sponsor requirements, and the evolving needs of the research community while being fiscally responsible.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise or research computing infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of servers, storage, virtualization, networking, cloud services, security controls, systems integration and any associated software stack.
  • Experience supporting secure environments and managing infrastructure for complex technical workloads.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, faculty, researchers, and institutional leadership.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Significant experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, research computing, or related technology leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, academic medical, or research-intensive environments.
  • Experience supporting high-performance computing, research storage, cloud research environments, or advanced networking.
  • Knowledge of research compliance, data governance, and regulatory frameworks affecting research data and systems.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded research technology needs and sponsor-driven requirements.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
