Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the Media Preparation Core as a Research Technician!

The Media Preparation Core plays a critical role in supporting cutting-edge research at Memorial Sloan Kettering by providing high-quality, chemically defined tissue culture and bacteriological media for cell growth studies across the institution. Staffed by a team of skilled research technicians, the core produces more than 300 media formulations ranging from standard preparations to highly customized solutions tailored to investigators' specific research needs. With a commitment to efficiency, quality, and customer service, the core delivers reliable media, supplements, and reagents on a rapid turnaround timeline, enabling researchers to focus on advancing scientific discovery and improving patient outcomes.

  • Media Formulation: Measure, dissolve and formulate complex liquid and solid growth media (broths, agar, buffers) according to strict standard operating procedures(SOPs).
  • Equipment Operation Safely operate and maintain specialized equipment, including large-scale pressure vessels, large stainless steel filtration units, autoclaves, balances and pH meters.
  • Sterilization & Aseptic Technique: Ensure total sterility of all prepared solutions filtered into sterilized bottles using positive pressure, as well as vacuum filtration units
  • Quality Control: Perform routine quality checks on finished media, including pH verification, and sterility testing.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
  • Basic knowledge of biology and chemistry concepts
  • Comfort with calculations, concentrations, molarity conversions, and measurements
  • Familiarity with common cell culture reagents and terminology
  • Understanding of sterile techniques and laboratory practices
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Ability to follow protocols while troubleshooting when needed.
  • Team-oriented approach to supporting postdocs and fellow researchers.
  • Adaptability in a dynamic lab environment.

  • Schedule: 37.5 hours per week (onsite)
